FringeWorld "Proof of Concept" W.I.P.

If you guys want to test out Badumna you can go to:

We have a release date of Halloween but Unity user are welcome to test it out until then.

Updates are frequent ( Usually every 48 hours ). The actual game is being built by 2 people. With a few free-lancers for illustrations.

Currently you have access to 3600 square miles to explore.

The character is very slowly.
I don’t want to walk 10 hours to see the first city or tree…

and: “3600 square miles” says nothing if the half of the map is just up and down hills without trees…

We just got heightmaps and base textures in place. There is an entire city with 400 buildings on the horizon. we will be adding more shortly

Positive - small file size, so quick download.
Negative - When i join the game i start to fall for 3-6 seconds, then hit stop. all i see is some foggy buildings (city) in the distance with no terrain…

Perhaps you are streeming terrain, but i cannot download fast enough?

I’m updating the file right now to start people in the city.

Give it five minutes and you may need to reload the page in the browser.

File is updated

The buildings are flickering on my machine. Looks like Z-Arguing.

And I agree the character moves far to slow.

But the world looks pretty cool so far. Good work.

The flickering is an issue with directional lights and extremely low poly objects that are large in Unity. tweaking the lights settings helps but if all else fails we will add polys as we develop it.

boooo :frowning:
it took me 16 minutes to walk to the city. Once i got there you had just updated -_-…
Ah well, i just used a small but heavy weight and played around on my ipod whiel waiting XD.
The city could do with alot of work imo. The terrain just covers up doors and windows and several floating windows. The textures dont like nice, though you could be trying to achieve a certain style.

Just my opinions though, either way ill sitll be intrested in seeing this game grow

Sorry about the walk. But that’s kind of the point.

It one of the largest games ever made with Unity. And currently 4000 or so people can play at the same time.

I think when we release the cars they will be a big hit

We hope to have it so people can shoot guns at each other by the end of the week.

Having a large map with nothing on it will make everyone go away imo. Having a large map with some scenery, interactive things such as cars and guns like you said, will make it fun. Its really, to early to judge this game :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes at this point we opened it up so people may check out Badumna functioning on a server.

Ahh :P.
I tried to use that networking, though could never get one of my pc’s with public ip to connect to it, and dont want a dedi server yet. Though, i beleive it is actually a good networking solution.

Why is the resolution on the textures so extremly low? Sureley you could make it abit higher in resolution without to much performanceloss?

It takes a bit to get it up and running. But it’s very solid. It has not crashed once since we got it running. And we are throwing all kinds of weird code at it.

Obviously we have tweaking to do. Camera set ups that work well in a city fail horribly when your looking across a massive valley etc…

Bu as of now we have literally thousands of square miles of terrains streaming. There are 5 mountain ranges and a desert.

And we went for low resolution terrains at large scales. Similar to the original W.O.W. or Entropia. This is simply because planets are huge. I think if you did grids of 1 mile areas the Earth is around 99 million grid squares. So we are deciding on happy mediums.

But in the end you will be able to ride vehicles and do combat with literally hundreds of foes in FringeWorld. And it is a work in progress till Halloween.

Threw in some trees for fun. But over the next 2 days I’m going to replace the default Lerpzs character with something else more suitable and add an inventory system. Then I’ll go back to making it pretty.

:p, a more pretty’ed up game i would spend more time testing

I got a new Avatar in but he is leaning forward for some silly reason. Once I figure out why we will add a choice for male or female and add an option for name input.

After that I will throw in some basic rifle combat.

Are there any buttons I can press that allow me to fly around at high speed, because this is getting tedious…

Be patient. It takes time to build a world. And my first concern is finding a fix for the Horrible FBX import issues with Unity and 3DS Max. That is why the avatar is leaning forward 8 degrees right now.

We let the forum know about the game solely so they could test a working app with Badumna Networking and Unity.

Once we correct the Avatar issues we will add gun combat.

After that we will be adding these features in order:

1 Inventory System.

2 Registration and Character customization.

3 Log In Functionality.

4 Vehicles.

More Updates soon.

Well, this keeps getting better .

When you do a log in Please implement a save location system (optional) and a reset location button. THis was we can explore without time constraints, and if we are lost or bored, we can reset to village.
