Frog de Leon - an action / adventure platformer (WIP)

I’ve been working on this game for a while in my spare time. I thought it was time to share it with everyone here and see if anyone besides me has any fun playing it

I still have a long way to go with this project, but I think I’ve got enough of the core gameplay mechanics working. Some of the graphics and animations are placeholders or rough drafts still, but I’m working my way through them and improving or re-creating them. It’s basically a one-level game right now, but the framework is set for a larger game.

I’ll only be working on this when I get time (I work a full-time job), but I’ll add to this as I update the game. I have plans for a second level. It will begin on the beach, then the player will enter a cave - it’s in this huge labyrinth of caves that most of the main game will take place. The gameplay will focus on exploration as opposed to a set path that the player must take. There will be secret treasures and hidden areas to find (there’s at least one hidden area in the first level!). There will also be ability upgrades and new equipment to acquire (there’s only one weapon right now). Anyway, please check it out and thanks for visiting!

Updated description, webplayer, video and screenshots in the original post above.

What’s New?

  • You can collect coins that can later be traded for items and maybe upgrades.
  • If the game has already been loaded and you play again, the loading screen won’t go to the first level right away. The more coins you collect in the loading screen, the more time it will give you before going to the first level. If you do well, you can get a lot more coins this way.
  • The opening narration has a scene in the background now. It isn’t finished yet, but it’s better than just text.
  • The ship now rocks back and forth. This caused a few issues (here’s looking at you, climbing ropes), but I think I’ve got most of the problems worked out.
  • Some of your stats are saved now and you can view them on the main menu. I’m still working on this, so only a few things get saved so far. It’s definitely more fun to keep playing and try to get more coins though!
  • Improvements to the frog’s and owl’s animations. I need to re-skin and re-import the owl though because the animations are not as they should be.
  • I’ve been working on the lighting. There’s a sun now with a sun flare. It looks pretty good, but maybe a little too intense sometimes. Overall, I think the scene is still a little dark.
  • Lots of minor improvements to textures, behaviours, GUI.

Currently Working On:

  • In-game player GUI / HUD (health, etc.)
  • Improvements to ship level (a long list - almost there!)
  • Improve models and animations

If you have any comments or feedback, please leave them.

Updated webplayer and screenshots in the original post above.

What’s New?

  • In-game pause menu. There aren’t any options yet - that’ll come later.
  • New main menu design. The background image is still just a borrowed texture - I’m not sure what I want to replace it with yet.
  • Updated player displays (health, oxygen, current abilities).

Currently Working On:

  • Modeling and animating level 2 enemies and props

As always, feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

A good idea for getting some more feedback would be to post some screens showing the game, that way more ppl will probably test the webplayer.
Nice game, maybe a bit slow paced, keep up the good work : )

Thanks for the comments virror. I’m not sure what you mean about the screenshots though - there are screenshots in the original post. I can’t seem to embed my gameplay video though (there is a link to the youTube page). I thought I remembered having an embedded video before on this forum, but either that’s not an option any longer or I’m just remembering wrong and it never was possible.
