Frustrum is spelled frustum!!! :-O

I learned about frustums sometime last year or so, when learning more about Unity’s cameras. However, I have been using the word “frustrum” instead, because I did not do a good job of reading.

Searching these boards, I found 73 matching posts for “frustrum” versus 186 for “frustum”. 28% of relevant posts are using the wrong word! I’m not alone in my mistake. I just had this realization earlier this week, and although this thread won’t get to everyone who needs help, I will put it here, in hope that it will benefit some! :o

And the product is called Unity, not Unity 3D!

Sorry, just had to join the rant feeling.

RAWR! ← this thread needed some all caps

(and I feel ya Jessy, I’m just having fun)

Wow. Shit. Now, what can I say… Same thing here. Always read frustRRRRRRum. Sounds way better, though. Oh, and I like the “frustration” part in the wikipedia note. Makes totally sense to me.

Shouldn’t the red underline you get under “frustrum” when typing it have been a tip-off?

I have spelling shut off because I’d only have a huge junk of red lines while typing german stuff… So: No red underlining here to tip me off

Not always, there are plenty of tech jargon words that might show up as misspelled in spell checkers.

This conversation is “frustating” me… :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s exactly what I thought! “How could I have missed such a thing?!”, said I to self.

However, you’ll find that not one “frustrum” on these boards was donated by me, outside of this thread. And I do very little typing about technical topics outside of these boards and code. Apparently I’ve only been using it in internal monologue and speech!

Can you use the multilingual setting? (That’s a real question…I don’t know how well it works since I’ve never had occasion to try…)

Surely that’s what the “learn spelling” option is for.

Someone should make a vocal spell-check!

–Eric

Sure, if you use it… :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually… I know more than one person (including one who’s built his own proprietary 3d engines) who say "frustrum’.

Damn it, I do it too.

It’s because ‘FrustUM’ sounds stupid :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s like the word “nuclear”, soooo many people say it “nuke-u-ler”.

There is one? Real question as well. I’ve never seen something like that…

Yep, Edit->Spelling, and you get this window.

Well, f*** me running!
Though there seems to be no such option in Snow Leopard and Safari 4, there’s another option called “Automatic by Language”. Thank you for the hint, though!

now i freel like a drumbass

Frustum the whole time… Darn.

Euler is OIL-er not YOU-ler!

According to my dictionary both is right. Frustum and frustrum.

You must have a pretty unique dictionary there. It is only frustum according to the 3 dictionaries I have, in addition to dictionary.com, OS X spellcheck, and Google spellcheck.

–Eric

This thread is fustrating.

Awesome! One of the tags at UnityAnswers is “frustrum”.
