I’m busy (again, for those who know me) with skies.
My skies differ from the skies you usually find, in that I include terrain in them. If you choose the proper sky and terrain textures so that they match, this creates a great feeling of large, open space, a must for outdoor terrains.
This time, I’ve made ready-to-use skyboxes for Unity:

I’m trying to make this as dev friendly as possible, so you can simply import the package, drag&drop the sky of your choice to your scene, and be done.
I also include a cubemap for the correct reflections on shiny surfaces, and (for one skybox) a HDR panorama if you want to use the sky in, say, Cheetah3D with HDRI lighting.
I’m posting this to get some feedback. The skies themselves are free for non-commercial use.
Feedback I’m looking for:
- Do you want/need/like this kind of skies?
- What else do you need to make this as easy-to-use as possible for a Unity developer?
- Would you be willing to pay a few bucks for a package of skies in higher resolution?
I’m thinking about buying a commercial license for the program I use to create the skies, and sell skybox packages.
My thinking is to create various versions of every sky (day, night, morning as well as clear, cloudy, overcast and without clouds for those who use their own clouds system inside Unity) so you can blend between them. I have a script ready to do that, and it does a fairly good job at simulating day/night cycles.
So, please post feedback.
