This is an interesting and fun little flash game that I discovered today. Thought others might enjoy and/or be inspired by it too…
It’s kind of cute.
It would be funny to see this as a multiplayer. Hmm would turn into somekind of lemmings probably.
I made a working loop!
I like that the designer states: “Its not a game, its a toy. What i mean is there is no goals to achive and there is no score.”
I think thats an interesting way of thinking.
You’re opening the door to some probably excellent debate discussions on the nature of toys vs games. I would still consider the (wonderful) line drawing app to be game. It’s just that I made up the goal on my own – try to make him catch as much air as he can after going off a jump.
But his approach is very similar to the one that Nintendo is taking these days. Non-games with no goals like Nintendogs and Brain Training are doing very well for them.
What I like about use of the word toy is that it requires the player to engage their own imagination. Rather than passively receiving as if watching television, they are making the experience better for themselves by adding to it internally.
What do others think?
One of my favorite game types is what they refer to as a “sandbox”. One of the reasons I love Second Life so much. Just wish the engine it ran on wasn’t ancient.

i think what you’re talking about is nekofactory. do it! do it!
interactive nekos… hmmm… that you create yourself… hmm… and you raise like nintendogs… hmmm…
Well there goes an hour and a half out the window
Why do I find these things so addicting?? I just couldn’t stop!
I find that most ‘toys’ are like this. It’s hard to tear yourself away, even as simple as they usually are.
I think the best thing for this game would be for us to be able to share tracks. Don’t you guys what to show people the cool tracks you have made? I do.
I don’t really think it is a toy. It is game because there is a goal and there is a challenge. The obvious goal is to make the coolest track possible and the challenge is that the sledder isn’t invincible. If the sledder couldn’t die I think it would be a toy.
I really like games like this that are extremely simple, very different and hard.
Excellent… I like the way you worded that!
Do you think that a toy-type of game could do good in the casual game market? Most of the casual match-3 type of games are entirely goal driven and usually frantic. (HURRY!! pop all the balls before its too late!!!) How is that ‘casual’? ![]()
The thought of creating a first person toy-type of game really interests me. Make a place visually appealing and put in enough things (or one thing) fun for the player to do. No timers, no preset goals, no pressures.
