Game design - "Spaghet"

This one changes my views on “successful game design”, and I guess I’m on entirely the wrong track since it would never have occurred to me to make a game like this. “Spaghet” (currently on Steam for $1.99 and selling pretty well) is a game in which you have to use your hands to repeatedly slap a plateful of spaghetti “to keep it warm” (an aspect of the laws of physics I didn’t know about), while periodically hiding from monsters in the house who, evidently, do not want you to eat or slap their spaghetti (the game implies you’re in the wrong house and therefore slapping someone else’s spaghetti). You can hide under the table until the current monster goes away, then sit back at the table and resume your spaghetti slapping. That’s apparently the entire game. It doesn’t have any Steam achievements, so that isn’t the attraction this time. It has mostly positive reviews and is being covered by many large Youtube channels which routinely cover horror games, such as this one:

I assume the “hook” is a combination of unusual / zany activity combined with a low price and horror elements, which insures it’ll be covered relatively well on Youtube. Or maybe I just don’t get it.

Doesn’t look like it’s been out for long. We’ll see how long it stays popular. Something that gets a few hits because it’s meme worthy doesn’t mean it’ll actually be successful.
