Game download and its popularity

I would like to raise, perhaps, for everyone an interesting, and for someone a painful topic - “Downloads of your game and its popularity.” I know, for someone it’s “a piece of cake” and they are unlikely share their experience, but for whom it is not difficult, I would like to ask - How do you achieve downloads? How much do you spend money on this? Do you buy any advertising at all or do not spend a penny and get a lot of downloads? Let’s share our victories and mistakes, maybe for someone this information will be useful (to me for sure:smile:).
