The reason I wouldn’t even help is because, who gets Unity and expect to make something unique the very first time opening it up…

HINT : Go to the LEARN section of Unity and do their tutorials.

Heck I had Unity for MONTHS before I ever even got on Answers or the Forums.
I think I went to Unity Answers one time at the start, but that’s just because I couldn’t figure something out,
and I ended up figuring it out. (Had my Rigidbody settings wrong).

+1 for tic tac toe. It’s a great way to learn any language, and it’s also a great way in unity specifically to learn how the gui systems work.

Game ideas are simple. Here, let me take a look around my living room:

Elf Escape or Christmas Tree Climber (from seeing my Christmas Tree)
Oh no the evil whatchamacallher has shrunk down one of Santa’s elves and placed them inside a glass cabinet along with a fully decorated and lighted Christmas tree.
It is your job to reach the top of the tree traversing across the ornaments which include small glass balls, bells and candy canes. Be careful because with each jump there is a chance the small amount of shaking caused by your movement could cause one of the ornaments above you to fall down. If this happens get out of the way.
If you miss or get knocked off you fall. Reach the top and you win! This could be a side on view, iso or standard 3D first person view.

The DVD Missions (from seeing my DVD collection sitting on the book shelf)
Someone has stolen all of the DVDs at whateverplace (yours, your company, whatever who cares).
It’s up to you to track them down and safely return them all. It could be a top down, side on, iso or standard 3D first person view.

Battle Axe: The Legend of YOU! (from seeing my battleaxe hanging on the wall)
Single screen street fighter / mortal Kombat style game. Actually, I can show an example of this kind of thing. Something along the lines of the old Barbarian game but this one is all about you using a Battle Axe.

That is just to show an idea for a very cool yet simple game. The focus was completely on the combat and of course being able to cut off your opponent’s head was awesome. That kind of “made the game.”
Yours could be in 2D side on view like Barbarian or 3rd person / first person 3D view.

You could literally just look around your house and every object can become a video game. Have fun with it. And the thing is you could have 10 different people look at the same exact object and come up with 10 completely different game concepts focused around that object.

Try it out for yourself and good luck!

Oh… and remember the key to any good game is in the implementation. To see an example of pulling an idea off the top of your head and turning it into a playable game check out the development process of my Christmas game. It is all there from the initial concept (I actually threw out to inspire other people) on through to the released game.

Have fun with the process!

@Not_Sure shared some leaves in the Christmas game forum:

This is a good example.

Graphically speaking we could maybe come up with something like this…

Backyard Battles
Two miniature armies fight it out in the backyard. Using the leaves for cover. The lighter leaves are displayed above the game objects. Might even be better if one army was The Ants and the other army was The Ticks. Maybe they have modern equipment such as tanks or maybe they have medieval period gear such as mangonels and trebuchets.

Or, we could easily see something like…

Leaf Jumper
You control a small insect and must leap from bright leaf to bright leaf to reach your destination the small water hole.
Of course, some evil critters could be placed on the background leaves.

Or thinking of leaves…

Lawn Raker
Travel around the neighborhood raking lawns to earn some money. Beware dogs and those two bullies who love to run through your leaf pile and mess it all up.

If all else fails you could literally take the image of the leaves and slice it up into an even number of pieces.
Now you can make one of those Hidden Image games where you click a couple squared the turn over and show the leaves piece beneath. If they match they both stay uncovered. Alternately, you could make a sliding puzzle, just leave one square empty for movement. When the player completes the sliding block puzzle you fill in the final missing piece.

Anyway, hopefully you can see what I am getting at here. Game ideas are vast. And it really comes down to your implementation of the idea. Even with the ideas I have thrown out if 10 people made one of these games they would likely look and feel (perhaps even play) differently enough that nobody would possibly know they came from the same idea.

So, just pick some idea. Create some quick idea. Simple idea. Then develop a game around it.

A spelling game like Hangman’s Noose. That oughta keep you busy for the next decade or two.

hahahaha yes indeed

A game idea like,…? :eyes:
What specifically are you looking for in a game idea? :eyes:

Is this for your first game? Pick something like Tetris, PacMan, Space Invaders, Breakout, match-3, etc., make one simple change to the rules which you think might be interesting, and make it.

People get all hung up on originality, but it’s not really a big deal. Go find any large successful game and, on analysis, you’ll find that it’s a little bit of original sitting on a lot of iterative refinement from games that came before it.

Make a game where the player has to try to come up with great game ideas.

Interesting problem that not many people have. Usually it’s “i have a great idea but don’t know anything else”.
I hope it’s the other way around - i would like to be in that spot too.

So… make a boring text adventure about nothing and then trade integrity for good reviews?
