My name is Tate, and I work both in software and on my own as an artist. Really excited to see this project kick off!
I noticed the logo card (under Texturing, UI, & 2D) in codecks was grey/unassigned. I have a couple of simple ideas in mind that I thought of looking through the concept art that would not depend on the title of the game. If possible I’d love to work on this card. For ease, maybe I could submit my designs (and maybe even others if they’d like) in this thread when finished? Thanks!
It’s a bit early to draw the logo since we don’t have a title yet! But we can start exploring styles?
Please post ideas, even styles of logos you like, for inspiration.
Should it be 2D, 3D? Animated?
Later once we have a title, we’ll dive deeper into this and actually start working on the logo graphics.
Thanks for the heads up Adrian - I just noticed that as well. Looks like it may have just been created. I am going to hop over to that one seeing as it has the official Unity seal and Ciro’s message attached.
Absolutely. I just started working on a couple of 2D concepts I had thought of previously when I saw this message. Posting a few concepts that I came up with. I tried to keep them flexible so they could change or be used across different titles.
Thefirst is a sort of silhouette theme that I thought of looking at the island concepts as well as the Pig Chef designs. To your point about animation I think this one could be animated if that’s the direction Unity wanted to go. I think this design is flexible in a lot of other ways too (could be trimmed down, expanded on).
Thesecond is a mock up I made with almost a sort of iOS logo in mind, or a simple thumbnail that could be used for the game using a close up of Pig Chef.
Would love to hear any/all thoughts on these. Thanks!
Hi @TatoD , just jumping here to give some feedback about your logos:
Regarding the first one, I understand this logo is for something like a splash screen or the box of the game. If that is the case, I really like your initial concept! I would really love to see more ideas or a more in detail concept (like with colour) following your design.
Regarding the second one, I think its a good idea, but it has taken me some time to understand it was the pig’s nose. Also, the way it is drawn reminds me to the Twitch logo (the streaming page).
Looking now I agree with you on all this. I think you’re right that there could be benefit in expanding a bit on that first one and linking a few versions with color in addition to the silhouette. I’ll do that next.
@treivize that’s a fun composition, but none of these for me is really a “logo”. I mean, we could argue on how much text it should be vs. how much “other stuff”, but in general I think a good thing would be to start with a logo that contains the game’s name and little else, which is going to be flexible and usable in situations like the Steam mini banners, where space is little and you want your logo to still be recognisable. Random example:
See how Wattam, Curve Fever, ORX, Override SML 2 and Omori do a great job? Crunch Element a bit less, but still good. Love Money RnR is ok, but feels a bit like other stuff… example. But maybe it’s ok, at least it communicates an aesthetic on its own. Override SML 2 doesn’t tell me much about the game in question though, but it has a decent silhouette.
Silhouettes are very important too, we should come up with something that works even in black/white. We might never use it in black and white, but if we can make it work, it’s going to be instantly recognisable even at smaller sizes.
@cirocontinisio , thanks a lot for the clarifications! It is much clearer for me (maybe it was already clear for the others ^^!), what is expected from this Game logo task. I will try to do another attempt soon!
Yep, as a thumb rule, a ‘logo’ should still work only when it is black and white or just the outline. And you can have the emblem part and the letter to work independently.
The last step is nintendofy it and add seven layers of bevel, three textures and one gradient.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but then I realized it could just be coincidental placement of the notch. Has there been discussion of compass functionality for waypoint navigation? Could be a good fit.
Also, love the font and the abstract pig face for the bottom O. I wanted to do that for my logo concept, but I’m just not that good of an artist lol
