game questions

Hi guys, I’ve been working on a smartphone mmorpg simulative game in 2d for about 2 months, a sort of D&D mmorpg to be clear.

Since I have now finished the development of all the graphics, I hope for your help to understand how to move within the programming world and how to choose the ideal programmer (yes i want to hire one programmer) …

  • So in your opinion, what kind of information should I give to the programmer to set the right parameters of the skills / statistics of the characters or monsters?

  • What do you think is the right compensation for programming a game of this type? You can refer to shakes and fidget to get an idea, I hope for your help, thanks in advance

Do you have actually any programming experience?
If not, that will be very long journey for you.

TBH, if you have no programming experience, or knowledge in C#, or ability to at least MOD code…then you really need to utilize “out of the box” systems (asset store), and how to get them to work together (integrations/set-up).

If you hire a decent C# coder, its going to cost you dearly…pick your poison, and pick your path…

Thank you for your reply guys, in terms of cash we are over 10k?

I have 0 knowledge of code, unfortunately…

That entirely depends on your scope and who you hire, if you wanna get a top notch team it’s gonna cost you, you can try and hire people from countries like india where man power is cheaper.

If this is your first adventure into games drop the mmo idea, it’s a pipe dream until you get experience, not only in creating the game program but also in design.

My suggestion is to learn some programming. It will come in handy when you least expect it.

Very good.

10k? Cool.

Tip: My advice would be to make sure to not spend that money, on too many 3rd party assets. Alot of indies unfortunately fall into the trap, of buying tons of assets, only to realise that they wasted their money, and sometimes get burned out and less motivated, to continue making their game.

Then after a few months or a year, some of those same indies return to this forum, and make topics/posts, talking about their game making depression life story, which though understandable is sometimes very depressing to read.

That 10k + would later or probably sooner, come in handy for more important things for your game, as time goes by.

Thank you, i decided to start with an offline version to see if the game catch enough people to start later an online version.

As assets i bought only 30$ of it, i created all the UI, icons, things…in the spare time i worked on the math formulas of stats, skills and monsters…need the programmer to build up the game…

Very good.

Creating an MMO without any coding knowledge is not doable by yourself. MMO’s typically take years to develop, so hiring programmers to build and maintain such a game I’d expect to be in the 6 figure price range. Though you haven’t said much to speculate further on really how much work your project really will be. Just MMO’s are generally the largest and most complex of projects.

Hello guys, to make it easy to understand, I’m talking about a game like this (see attachments)
It will be similar and will be offline at the start. Only the coding is needed and actually i found no developers…

Actually 10k of what currency? This may be huge difference.

Btw, the screen shots examples looks like some classic RPG card based game.
But logic behind maybe far beyond simple. Finding programmer is one thing. But you really should have all mechanics described before hand. Specially you try to outsource programming job. That should be explaining well, what happens when etc. I.e. In type of flow chart. Do not underestimate that. Your game maybe as good, or as bad, as the design. And may lead potentially to waste of your resources.

Further more, you should be able understand code once written and be able to implement desired modifications. Otherwise, expect delays, or further unexpected cost. Nothing unusual.

This, I’ve came across so many job offers as a freelance programmer(unrelated to game dev) that have such ambiguous requests for what the code should do that makes the work also design and not only programming.
if you just want a programmer you should be able to have all the logic figured out and be able to play the game on paper with a ruleset.

Glad to hear you’re moving on it, but I hope you have a realistic estimate of the amount of time this will take. I’m over 4 years in dev in my free time on mine, and I almost know what I’m doing  Good luck to you though, seriously!

It will be a 6-12 months run to complete the apk, the programmer said less than 6 months but i don’t think so…

Mybe it is suitable to begin by simpler game. MMORPG is a huge project that developers must have rich experinces.
