Alright. So I am releasing a full standalone game on Steam in just a few weeks. It is nearing the time where I have to send Steam builds of my game. I have Windows, and have tested the Windows version to work on all versions of Windows. So that part is taken care of.
However, I do not have any access to a Mac, although I am planning to support Mac. How would any of you recommend testing my game to work for Mac, especially if I don’t have one.
Are there any really good emulators out there for Mac, or should I contact someone over the internet (with a Mac) to test it instead? I would do that, but I would be worried that someone takes advantage of the test. I’ve had bad experiences with trusting people over the internet with that kind of stuff, and this if far too important too mess around with silly risks.
I appreciate any ideas that any of you may have, and I really hope that I can figure out a way to get this standalone game tested on a Mac in the next few days.
Thanks and Cheers!
Last I checked (a few years ago) there weren’t any good enough emulators for Mac that would run on windows. After a lot of coaxing you can get Unity projects to “run” but it was so slow that it wasn’t any good for testing. Maybe things have changed maybe someone else has tested it more recently.
Something as critical as being your only tester on a platform I wouldn’t source out to anyone it is too important. Unity cloud build might make it possible to do the build fine without a Mac but that doesn’t help with testing. To be honest my recommendation would be to grab a used Mac off of ebay that is equivalent to youe lowest build target (which is usually pretty old). You can generally pick one up for a couple hunded dollars, less than half of a newer Mac. If your targeting high end devices there isn’t a way of saving $$$ that I know of.
On some hardware you can convince a PC to be a hackintosh, and I went this way for awhile, but in the end it’s pretty fragile and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I wouldn’t recommend supporting a platform unless you’ve got access to it yourself. My suggestion would be to buy a low end and/or second hand Mac.
I’ve got a mac with me, so if you want you could send it to me, I wouldn’t mind testing it but then there are still the problems of whether you trust me or not
