Game window zoom - what is it for?

Just trying out Unity and liking it so far.
There are good things on the Asset Store.

Now I have one question: In the game window you have a “Scale” button.
What is this for?

When I use a higher scale, the game window is just zoomed in without any real zoom, it just gets bigger and get pixelated.

So what’s the use of this scale option?

It works both ways, ie. if you are designing for a retina display tablet or phone with a monitor or a laptop that has a smaller resolution.

@Ostwind But I can’t set it to a lower value than 1. And can I disable it if I don’t need it? I find myself accidentally changing it all the time.

You can set it to lower if your game view resolution is higher. Default is free or fixed aspect ratio without any dimensions. I don’t think you can disable it.

It’s to make me think I did something to make my graphics all crappy.

i see it randomly goes to 2x on start for you as well

lol nah, I just accidently scroll the mouse wheel and don’t realize it sometimes so it gets zoomed.

I sometimes change my resolution to 4k then zoom back in to 1x, let’s me see stuff up close whilst working on graphics without maximizing game view (so I can have inspector etc available for tweaking)
