Sounds like this might be integrated into Android like Gamecenter is for iOS. If this is true, it’s welcome news for my project!
This may be meaningful 2 years from launch when its finally available in 30% of the installed android phones, even then not great.
Only way this is real news is if somehow they will offer the an installable service for older versions of the OS.
Or sorts out the upgrade process, which is a total mess.
Android update gets released. Handset manufacturer spends time putting their skin on top if it is still worth it for that device, otherwise handset doesn’t get it. Then carrier spends time putting their skin on top of that if it is still worth it for that device on their network, otherwise handset doesn’t get it. Then the user has to work out how to do an update.
Game Center alike functionality might be something to drive more updates. Hopefully…
