Games and Sexy Game Characters.

Hey,

What do you guys think about games with sexy game characters? I know we are using some in our game and I want to know what you think. Any Pro’s or Con’s you would like to post?

What Style of Art do you like? 2d? 3d?
What do you think is too sexy?
What about clothing, is there a style of clothing you like? Should they be nude?
You like realistic more? Think of http://www.irondong.com/ .

Ha-ha this thread made me laugh  i think it depends on the game… if it’s for a stripper then dress them like a stripper if it’s about the queen of England then dress her in a way she would dress, I wouldn’t go full nude as it would most likely get banned in some country’s.

Yes, strippers… Duke Nukem anyone? Hey those chic’s are nude too aren’t they?

Also there are young people on here id recomend adding a warning that these the more relistic link goes to a pornographic website.

I find it hard to concentrate on the game when there are these…distractions. Even though I’m not really into cartoon/polygon women.

I’m not a purist or religious at all, but games and sex shouldn’t be mixed at all. Having sexy characters won’t help a game become better. Playing a game and looking at something sexually stimulating are two very different emotions and I try to avoid it when making my own games. But thats just what I think. I’ve known developers, even from torque and darkbasic forums, that have tried to include sexy characters in their work, very much like the first post’s pictures, but they were sorely disappointed with the result.

In some situations it could be nice, like if you were a female assasin that seduces her targets then kills them once they go back to there place

@thelastprogrammer
So Strip Poker Games would have been more fun/successful without sexy women?
Lara Croft games would have been more fun/successful without Lara Croft?
Rescuing a adorable girl isn’t more motivating than looking for some ugly dog?

Sex sells in games like everywhere else, it’s just a matter of taste and how subtile you want it to be.

The problem occurs when characters that SHOULDN’T be revealing 90% of their body, are. The most prevalent cases of this are chain mail bikinies and so forth. If a female character is fighting dragons / aliens / etc, she should be wearing things appropriate for that mission.

If it’s not too sexy, I don’t think it’s a big deal. So How sexy is too sexy? - Nude. Also, I don’t think seeing undercloth is a good option if your target audience is for all ages. So, it’s depending on who’s ur target. Think Wisely !

These are all great points. They are all interesting.:o

tamuel: All of that stuff? Purely superficial. All of those games would be made better if the devs would spend more time developing characters who are actually attractive as a person as opposed to just physically attractive (and improbably proportioned).

And not just these links - there’s a lot out there.

Then go back to the drawing board and do it properly, rather than taking the sexist shortcut.

Of course it’s superficial but how many Einsteins (and even he…) vs. Bushs are running around in the world? And again, it’s a matter of taste how obvious you want it to be, indicating something can be a lot more sexy than actually showing it, but due to the human nature, sex is one of the most important desires. Although some might be low on testosterone though. Anyway certainly games would be welcome if they have deep and rich grown up characters, stories and dialogues but over 99% of the video games lack this experience and even then there rather are some good looking/sexy characters involved as well.

I think you can transport quite some emotions via choosing a certain level of abstraction which gives the players room to imagine and project but then again you’re on the Unity forum and part of the reason is that Unity also is about eye candy…

Sex Education

I think the reson they do this is that the industry is made up of mostly males so they make girls look hot and guys not so much, on the other hand there are alot of ripped warlords topless that only have shoulder armour this is just as impractical as a bikini even more so as the chest is completely not covered.

What about sexy males? I know there are girls around that dont just like hot banging babes in all the games.

This is off topic. I just have to post it though.

I found that quite funny

It’s a matter of how cheap/low you want to go to be able to sell your product.

Stuff it full of beyond-ideal proportion girls in very little with provocative poses and sure, your male audience will lap it up.

Do it properly and then your male and female audience will lap it up.

I could imagine that satisfying both genders needs more talent and is more work than pleasing just a certain percentage of one gender, so it depends if going this route makes sense or not.

Lara Croft:

  • $275Mn [$115Mn] Tomb Raider
  • $157Mn [$95Mn] The Cradle of Life

Indiana Jones

  • $384Mn [$18Mn] Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • $333Mn [$28Mn] Temple of Doom
  • $474Mn [$48Mn] Last Crusade
  • $787Mn [$185Mn] Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indy vs Laura

  • $1,978Mn vs $431Mn
  • [$279Mn] vs [$210Mn]
  • Comparing films because… well it’s much easier to get relevant numbers. [Costs are in square brackets.]

Exactly, there is no excuse for it other than laziness or ignorance.
