Hello. Well after some thinking i finally chose my next proyect theme. Again goin to try to revive an old DOS game. This time im taking the original idea form “Street Rod Racing” http://www.myabandonware.com/game/street-rod-s0
It’s like a “Need for speed” but back in the 60’s. The first game ever in this genere.
I will try to capture the “feeling” of the original game in a 3d enviroment.
So i started to do some art work in 3Ds and i thought it would be fun to post the progress from the blue prints to Unity.
Starting off from blue prints. Low polly mesh from front view SPline.
Finishing low polly mesh of the center body.
Converting to mesh and appliying turbo smooth.
Appliying materials to body and windows.
Checking progress from top view.
Side body turbo smoothed and adding of details.
Separation of materials and some more details.
Finishing half body, mirroring and joining.
Materials propeties for 3ds rendering, interiors, wheels…
Into Unity 3D!
Im working in the physics to allow diferent engine parts to modify the car behaviour… So far so good, but it’s not anywhere near.
So I’d like to extend my invitation to any programer willing to participate in this proyect, specially someone with car physics experience, and perhaps some day make some profit out of it.
If anyone wanting to take this serius please leave a PM.
I’m boggled down by work, so unfortunately I cannot help. But I have to say … I used to love this game back in the day! I hope you make some serious progression, so I can relive some time with a 3-D version!
I spent lot of time in youtube looking for the same V8 engine sound at different RPMs. finally found a video where they testing an engine at different RPMs in a testing platform. Made my day! heh
Unfortunatly in my country V8 engines are a very wierd thing to see [/code]
Well that’s a good question. I’m still working with the physics engine wich is the most important. Once done it will be posible for diferent parts to modify specific parameters of the car or engine. Some of the values inside the physics engine right now are:
some of them will be modify directly such as fuel and air intakes, tires air, suspensions, etc.
the rest will be modified by engine/car parts.
vaules as Hp, torque, engine friction… will be the result of changing or tweeking key parts.
there still lot of work to do but it’s getting there.
Deffinately looks like a good base to work from.
Are you considering any kind of visual customisation?
paint/bonnets/panels etc.
obviously some of customisation doesn’t really apply to the car you’re using at the moment, but this would be an awesome community project if you got a few people on board to expand the list of available vehicles etc.
