I know that when I was starting out it seemed to be an impossible task to find a good blank GDD template. The only thing harder it seemed was a good Art Bible or Level Design document. Anyways I was talking with a fledgling dev that we were doing work for this week about his current lack of a proper GDD to organize and think through his project and realized that we’ve assembled a decent well rounded GDD here that might help some folks looking for something to help structure their game on paper before they began work on it. So I made a few edits, updated it and threw it up on our box and blog, so fill yer boots and if you want to rip it to pieces and tell me everything that’s wrong with it feel free, I’ll make sure to update it with anything that sounds constructive and make it better for future game devs that will use it.
Thanks!
Thanks Getting a standardized GDD can be very difficult these days due the lack of proper reference so your help is greatly appreciated!
Even though a game design document is the first thing to be created in a game, it is very difficult to standardize the process. Thanks for the template, it will help in focusing on the targets of the game instead of wandering around that usually happens.
Glad you guys found it useful… We will be updating it after every major project as we think about ways to make it better or areas that might need more detail so keep an eye on it.
I liked your style. As many said, it is hard to standardize, but I think it could be done by creating a GDD tamplate for a given game type: FPS, RPG etc. If you can fit the game in one type, you can create a more focused GDD for that game type.
