Gear VR video recording stops when you enter the game

Hello! I am trying to record video of my game on the Gear VR using the native recording feature found in the settings, however the recording stops once I try to open my app ( the app is currently installed as a beta and visible in the Oculus library) - how can I solve this? Is this something to do with the androidmanifest? Thanks!

I had use chromecast to get the video out over wifi (saving to device kills performance and skips frames). You will get a black screen unless you enable Developer Options > Simulate Secondary Displays and I set it to 480p.

right… but why does the oculus native screen capture thing even exist then? how are people able to record using it?

Okay I just figured it out! The solution was as undocumented as it was facepalmy: all you have to do is disable “use 32 bit display buffer” in the player settings, and that’s it! It still doesn’t have sound, but the video quality is great! Since it’s for a trailer, I can live with the lack of sound and add them during video editing

EDIT: might have been even simpler: after entering the app, you just have to wait a bit (possibly load a new scene), and only THEN if you press and hold the back button will it take you to that menu where you can record
