Hi,
Some time ago I asked if it would be wise to buy a GTX295 card, but some people told not to but this one because its actually 2 GPUs on 1 card and unity wouldn’s use the 2nd gpu.
Now there is the geforce GTX470 and GTX480 which seem to have about the same speed as a GTX295, but if I’m not wrong then these ARE single gpu cards.
Would it be wise (in terms of performance) to buy such a card to get blazing speed in unity? ( I know they are expensive, but I need to find how to get the highest possible performance in unity)
Any info is very welcome
regards,
Bart
i would say , go for it… it seems a bit like an overkill to use that card for unity, i have a 9600m gs and it works like a charm, so i suppose that monster will make run even the most demanding graphics a breeze…
except one problem, it all depends in the target audience of your projects, if you are going to make simple casual games, it will be hard to really realize how well would those games perform on actual consumer graphics cards if you have the biggest one,
like if you have gtx480 and all your potential customers have cards in the consumer range, 9000 series,100,200 and now 300 … like the 310 or 330, you game will run ok in your computer, but it may run like crap in your customers pc’s, dont expect the costumers to have a high end pc if its just an arcade platformer or something like that
so think about it, what are your intentions and your desired target audience
That is something which I indeed know, but the general public has INTEL GMA cards so thats certainly not why I want a renderbeast.
I currently have a notebook with a 2xSLI Nvidea geforce 280M and I’m almost sure that unity is not using my second geforce M280 at all
