This is a project that started quite some time ago, and it’s going really nice with our limited resources.
You can check out a ingame video in our blog : http://camel101.com/devblog/
And because a showcase post, should have at least a shot, here it goes 2:)
UPDATE
17/03/10 The blog has been updated with a new gameplay video.
Now this already looks like one of the most polished Unity games to date, spectacular. Plus im a fan of all things with spaceships in them, and there are too few good space RTS games, so its that much better for me
Im not a fan of your spaceship designs, but theyre certainly well made and polished. Wish i could see them in action.
Could you share some more info about your game? Im guessing its a commercial endeavor?
In fact… i always wanted to make something like this myself - a proper 3d space RTS engine. Now i have no delusions about ever getting anywhere near the source or helping with development, but is there even a slight hope for it being moddable? Id love to import my own ships, especially since i know a team whos stuck with Homeworld 2 as their engine for modding because there are no alternatives
The game indeed it’s a commercial endeavour, and it’s been a long way until we reached this phase.
All ships movements, enemy AI, etc is coded, and we are finishing polishing up the GUI of the game.
AT KaelisAsur :
The ships design, i’m sorry you don’t like them, it’s really hard to have 10 or more ships per faction, designed in a way that they look original and cool, and at the same time very diferent from other factions.
The ships you see on that video are all from the same faction, so maybe some of the other designs will appeal you more.
I doubt the game will be modable tough, we have no way to load models into the game without the Unity IDE).
I beg to differ. I believe EVE has more than 50 ships per faction, then theres Infinity. There are plenty of games out there that have multiple factions with many ships in each faction. And i have a massive library of inspirational spaceship art gathered over the years, so id like to think that i know what im talking about
Im not complaining though, just making an argument.
Aww, thats a real shame. But what if i coded an obj importer for you?
You got me wrong (i think).
I wasn’t saying it’s hard to design 50 ships per faction, specially if you have a army of designers behind you
What is hard for us, might not be for CCP, you got me on that.
Btw, looking at EVE screenshots, i can’t automatically see what ship belongs to what faction (just judging by looking at shots, i never actually played the game).
If you get me that OBJ importer, yes, then i think it’s possible to have the game modable
The Amarr are the shiny golden ships, the Mimnitar are the ones that look like they were stitched together with duct tape and the Calamari generally have a strange asymmetry such as only one wing.
The Gaylante are french in ancestry, so nobody cares about them.
Eve’s ships are quite distinctive, but tbh that’s all lost once you go into a fleet fight. You generally scroll out as far as possible during a fight and never look at a ship. It’s a small colored bracketed square that you click on, or a pilot’s name in a vertical list.
Of course eve is somewhat different than a small RTS. I’ve been in fleet fights comprising literally 800+ ships.
Yes, the game works in 2 dimensions, but ships to move in diferent heights, so it gives a 3d feeling too.
The game is still far from being done, but i think a closed Beta would be a good idea.
Ya, Looks nice. I kind of have a space fetish, so this is right up my alley.Lol. Looks like a massive endeavor, best of luck with making this game a reality! 8)
