Getting Traffic To Your Threads And Making Them Popular

I see many responses on post from new users, but I have been on for a while, and I get very little response, so I am just wondering, what am I doing wrong and how to get more popular threads.

Post something interesting.

Ha, know what you mean.

I dont even bother these days (mostly)

I think they may be viewing your stuff, just not posting. Try asking a question when you post something new.

My threads are always too popular and become riots that the mods have to lock down for everyone’s safety.

Any thread with MMO in the title ends up a troll fest.

The best way to keep your stuff up in WIP is to keep posting new content. You will often notice the threads are mostly populated with comments from the OP.

Drama and controversy. But this does not necessarily make for good threads, just threads that get a lot of posts. It’s not about the popularity, but the quality of the content within. I’ll take a short thread with meaningful content over a controversial crap-storm where nothing of value gets produced any day.

Just post a game that people want to play, the more niche it is the less responses it will get. If you got bad art no one will be interested most of the time – get some better art from the asset store.

I actually watch and wait for Khyrid’s threads in the dark of the night. Sitting up until 4 am, refreshing the computer screen every 5 seconds with a bucket of popcorn.

Remember this?

That may just be the thing stopping me, the art is just blue, red, green and brown blocks.

I use to not answer to WIP thread without picture or videos preview.
Unfortunately that is about 50% of the WIP section.
I kindly feel losing my time if there are only guys speaking in a wip topic… :frowning:

Do something interesting and post results to your WIP page.

If you bump, bump, bump, nobody will bother.

Play these two games http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/594380 and http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/617686 to see how a few coloured blocks can still make moving games

Also anyone notice that there is a unity game on the front page of newgrounds lately? Its called dotLife here http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/617503 wonder how they did it as you still cant upload unity games to newgrounds, i think its something to do with html5 or something as that pops up before the game loads.

Have you tried uploading a game in the swf field?

It would have been funny if we all ignored this thread.

I was thinking the same thing… But we are nice people

I’m not an artist. I’m a coder. So, if threads get read because of the art, I’m kind of screwed from the outset.

hides my WIP thread with the amateurish art

I thought this was a tutorial… :frowning:

Ha nah, I believe alot of it is to do with the title itself, unfortunately we cant add little thumbnails to our posts which would be dangerously awesome! For eg (Slender MMO FPS, PimplePopper2000, etc :L ) Once you’ve captured an audience through the title its upto your content to meet the titles expectations. Some nice font tricks and a few screenshots/videos should do the trick.

I think people like even more than just art… they want to see in game screen shots, or concept are with an overall theme. I have a thread with like 4 art renders, but not many responses. lol. Oh well, maybe after I get gameplay working smoothly ill post a video and see if the response jump up.
