ghostTown - city generator for 3dsmax

Hi guys!
Been playing around with this fabulous city generator for 3dsmax lately it seems to work really well with Unity. It is still very much in beta, but I would recommend you to give it a go  It is not on the same level as CityEngine yet, but it`s definitely getting there.

Check it out here:

Had to post another pic, as this plug-in is blowing me away. 5 clicks and this is the outcome :

How many polys?

46000 triangles at the moment, which isn`t that bad really. Trying to figure out a way to cut it into separate pieces now, so I can do some nice occlusion culling  Will keep this thread updated with the progress.

Will have to check it out sometime, thanks.

impressive indeed, was looking for a good script like this, thanks

Really nice imo, altho i am still new to all this , i’m sure it’s a really good script

Heres a small video showcasing how simple it is to make a small town from scratch then use it with unity. Ill be posting some advanced videos later on, but for now… enjoy

Looks great! Is it available for download anywhere?

Ok, did find it, registered and downloading now, thanks.
Ok, how do I open the .mzp file?

Edit again: Whoops, mzp = the maxscript extension, sorry.

Guess I’ll wait for the manual.

Hi there!

Just start 3dsmax as an administrator, choose Maxscript/Run Script and browse for the .mzp file. Then you`ll have to go into Customize/Customize User Interface find the “kilaD” category. Once found, you can just drag drop the “openghostTown” object to the 3dsmax toolbar on the top.

Its still very much a beta, so dont expect it to be as rock-solid as unity

Installed, no problem, I just don’t know what to do next.
Read some of your forums but obviously not enough to take the first step.
Created plane as seems to be what is needed in one video, applied an edit poly modifier,
but get an error when trying build.

Hi Broken,

I get alot of these :

sometimes it works and looks great.

Looks really good.
Also pretty good is the Blender Suicidator City Generator.

Howdy!

It seems like your polygon plane is too small, so try scaling it up. You have an option in ghostTown to “show guide”. Make sure your area is bigger than the minimum size, so hopefully you`ll get rid of that error

The results that produces look really awesome.

I cant find it in Customize/Customize User Interface so under what category should i look??

@ivanzu> i had the same problem to find the category> its kinda hard to find if you dont know where to look > i can’t remember exactly where it is since its been a while since i installed it. But it is a category that opens when you click on a word that opens a list of words in the custom user interface window of 3ds max. and there you will find kilaD and then clik on it and drag the object below it into your 3ds max toolbar and a way you go . Also i had to update ghostown on the internet to get it to work >hopefully that helps

learning how to use the city generator thus far i watched the video in the blog forums where you sign up. It is the only thing like a manual that i could find that shows you how to make a city fast. But you have to do it in the same order as the video shows> like first make a plane to start with in 3dsmax once you have ghostown installed

this city generator works great, But how do i get my textures to show up with it in Unity ? i got the city made and all , but the textures don’t show up on the city . Must be something im doing wrong ? dunno , how do you put the textures when it is in Unity ? i even changed texture pixels to be equal > example: 1024 x 1024 and they still don’t show up on the city when the city model is placed in Unity …and i even used my own textures that work with other models in Unity but don’t work on this new city i made with this city generator. Any help with this would greatly speed up my production time.Until then im stuck with a city in Unity with absolutely no textures and it looks too bland … thanks in advance for the help
