Gizmo size is way too big

The default gizmo size has always been way too big. Now’d be the time to fix this. I mean, it’s just a default value, isn’t it?

Seriously, who needs that size.

I think the default size being too big or small is contextual. In cramped scenes like that, sure. But in open outdoors scenes, probably not. It’s configurable, so just make it smaller/bigger as needed.

I always have to change it. Always. It’s too big.

And I’ve usually had to make them bigger. There’s no ideal default value here.

You need a gizmo size that’s larger than the default, ie the unit sphere which is 1 Meter?

I mean, it’s slightly smaller in that image (slightly). And, yes? If I’m zoomed out working on open area, I do want them bigger.

If you’re zoomed out with bigger gizmos, you won’t see anything anymore because all is covered with gizmos.

Love this gaslighting.

Maybe share some pics with arguments instead of just being opposed?

Here’s one:

You can’t even see the character from a distance because of the gizmo size.

I think that image is more a case of needing to turn off unneeded gizmos. Something I do regularly. I usually have most gizmos turned off and just have the ones I require showing at any given time.

And we can go back and forth picking out images that selectively prove our point. It will just showcase there’s different experiences, and there’s no ideal option here. It’s configurable, configure it as needed. It’s such a non-issue.

There is no “one size fits all” here, hence the scale being a slider. Different workflows, different scenes, different objects demand different gizmo sizes or visibility.

One suggestions before using the forum to complain about X … try to put yourself in other user’s shoes. Is someone else going to be negatively affected by the change you desire for yourself?

And I mean this as broadly as Unity has to consider it. We have artists, designers and programmers alike working with the editor, even non-technical folks dabble with the editor. Not to mention anyone who isn’t actually a classic game developer but perhaps an automotive engineer or a vfx artist.

I’ve always felt they’re too big.

I wouldn’t have brought it up if I wouldn’t have thought of the majority of users. Or the impact. Or whether it’s trivial to change or complex and with side-effects

Which makes me think now: Why isn’t that actually an editor preference that’s Unity global on a system for future installations?

And while I’m at it: Why can’t I set Linear mode globally for all my future Unity projects? Or that the changing of the scale should always be uniform and non-uniform scale should be the exception?

Maybe the solution is to be found that way.

But no matter the easy change, ie change the default, the proper change would be to have them of dynamic scale.

i hope it would at least remember the size for every project…

definitely big enough ( : o ) issue for me that i’ve tried to adjust sizes with project init script:
but i feel like it doesn’t work in every version…
