GMA 950 and shadows?

I’m trying to get shadows to work on a GMA 950 intel chipset, but neither soft- or hard shadows do work. Same scene on a Macbook Pro with a nVidia card works great. Is the GMA chipset not able to render any shadows?

They work on my Mac mini with GMA 950. Although I found that I got a lot more artifacts with small bias settings and had to increase them. Possibly you need to update the OS if it’s less than 10.5.5 (or something relatively recent).

Are you trying on Mac or Windows? On Mac, GMA 950 can render shadows. On Windows, it can’t (no necessary capabilities exposed in Direct3D).

It was on a window machine. Good to know, thanks Aras. Was wondering why it worked on the Mac and not on Windows. Had first outdated drivers under suspicion.

Didn’t know that, so on Windows GMA950 doesn’t have support for shadows at all?

Correct. Intel 945 / GMA 950 does not support floating point texures, which are needed for shadow maps on D3D. Newer Intel cards (965 aka GMA 3000 and later) do support shadows. It’s all in the docs.

Sorry for the grave dig. I’m try to get dynamic shadows working on GMA 3150 but having no success. My detailed post is here. I’ve eager to figure out if this is a problem with my specific machine (+ drivers) or has the minimum shadow specs changed in any way.
