Just as it says , does anyone know of a good free vid converter. I have recently been trying to record a few things , and CamStudio works great , the quality is decent enough , but a 3 minute vid is 1g. So i picked up AnyVidConverter, and although it compresses the vid down to a mere 17mb, the quality is atrocious , and doesnt seem to have any configurable controls to adjusting it.
Thanks in advance.

Actually it is, it’s got a free version. But the free version does not let you convert to .wav and .mp3…
VLC has my preference, you can go to File > Convert / Save and convert video and audio as well. The amount of format is fairly limited but it works just fine for most things.
I really like Handbrake. It has lots of configuration options and it’s open source.
Edit: Wow I just realized how old the thread is.

Handbrake is definitely the best.
VLC can help you out in a pinch.

ffmpeg - free, cross-platform, open source and great for automation https://ffmpeg.org/
