Hey I recently have been working on a game that I kind of need to be play tested now.
It’s nothing massively complex but I need some people to test it, as I have been told by a few sources I should play test at the earliest stages possible (at a point where it is actually playable that is)
I have asked a few mates in the past but I don’t want to keep asking the same few people and I feel they are probably being bias when I ask for feedback and not being upfront about some things that just do not work, so does anyone know a good place to find some testers?
+1 for TIGsource. Also Feedback Fridays on the Game Design forum here.
Also check meetup.com for gamer groups. It doesn’t even have to be a game dev meetup. It’s great to get realtime feedback in person, where you can see body language and facial expressions. People are usually nice and won’t bluntly tell you if some aspect really sucks, but you can get an general idea of their impression.
That’s not the purpose of Early Access, people using their customers as testers is what gave it its bad reputation in the first place.
I think your best bet is to ask for help in sites like this one, Tigsource, IndieDB, Reddit, Twitter and any others you can but don’t expect too many people. In my experience, people are quick to promise to help and quicker to dissappear (even if you gave them a key).
When I first saw the topic, I was going to reply with ´ Steam Early Acess and charge them $20´… as a joke… but then I saw people actually said it as a real answer smh.
You could probably just post about the game in WIP on this forum and then ask if anyone wants to try it for you.
Thanks for all of the replies guys, I will check out the sites listed very soon, I will also pop over to the game design section of these forums again to see if I can get any feedback over there once again
