I just put my first app on the Google Play Store and am seeing lots of cancels. For example, I had 11 sales yesterday and all but 1 cancelled. Is this normal in the Android world? Does anybody else see this issue? Does it mean my app really sucks or is that just how things are in the Android world?
Means either your app sucks, but people download it to try it, realize it sucks, and get refunded within fifteen minutes. Or if your app doesn’t suck
then maybe there could be some payment problem or something in the developer console… I rarely see a refund, like one in fifteen downloads maybe gets refunded. And its not like my games are spectacular, but i like to think they are getting what they pay for, with no glitches, and clear instructions and stuff. Maybe your app just needs updated to be more inviting and user friendly?
Edit: also, could be that your app only offers some one time feature they need, for example if you had an app that unlocks all levels in another game for a cheat code or whatever, they could just use it, then refund to cheat the system lol… What type of app have you created?
It’s a Slenderman game. I thought it was pretty good and everybody I showed it too likes it. Unless, I have some kind of technical problem that I don’t know about, people may just not like it.
I did get 2 reviews of 4.5 and 5 stars so far. No negative reviews. Of course, I understand how that if someone hates it they probably wouldn’t want to bother with a review.
Hmm I’ll check it out on my Droid RAZR, if i spot any problems I’ll let you know. Have you got any support emails?
From the play listing it seems like a decent game, not sure why you have the canceled orders. Maybe add more info to the description, a clear outline of controls and what your objectives will be, so they are sure what they are buying, but it seems fine to me…
I haven’t received support e-mail about any issues. I have, however, received fan mail telling me how much a customer likes it and he had additional suggestions for a follow on game.
Wondering if I’m doing something wrong and it just doesn’t run on. Either that or people get their fill in under 15 minutes.
That’s possible, is it a relatively short game?
If you don’t already, add in a video sequence introduction for a couple minutes, maybe like a few splash screens, just to buy time for the player to use up those fifteen minutes playing through the game lol
It’s not really that short but I bet people don’t understand the objective and give up in frustration. A nice intro video or help screen might help.
Yeah, do your best to make things clear and simple for the user, if they don’t understand something then they give up easy, and perhaps refund in fear the game is bugged or too complex for them, when really they just were doing something wrong…
Oh and in the intro scene, be sure to tell all the controls and objectives to remind those lazy players who don’t read the description or anything
Did you get chance to look? I thought it was pretty cool but it must really be driving customers away.
I’ll happily test it out on my phone with a dev build or something
but I’m too broke to buy right now lol
If you give it a few days i could buy a copy though
So far today, I’ve had 4 of 9 order cancel. I did just see that of the 4 that cancelled 2 were “customer’s request” and the other 2 were
“The authorization of the customer’s credit card failed. Google has sent an email instructing the customer to update their card. If they fail to provide a valid card within 7 days, this order will be automatically cancelled by Google.”
Still 2 cancels out of 9 suggests a pretty serious problem with the app.
I’ll send it to you for review now.
Hmm i wouldn’t worry, already your getting alright downloads daily, so i think your game should be fine, maybe stands to make some money even!
And awesome, I love playing unity Android games! Gives me an idea what to shoot for in performance and such
I just sent you e-mail with a link. Let me know if you get a chance to look.
Downloading now, brb to let you know what i think. ![]()
Edit: Uh oh, got “Application Not Installed” error. Could be a messed up apk…
I’m on Droid RAZR with ics
HMMM! It runs on a Nexus 7, a Nexus pad, and an HTC One V. I guess I better figure out what the issue is. People would certainly return it if it didn’t install.
Keep me updated, let me know if you get a fix and I’ll try it
I have texture compression set to Do No Override. I think the best default I should be using is ETC1. Does anyone know?
Yes use etc
Oh was looking into the error, do you have your Android SDK all up to date? maybe you could fix it just by updating all the stuff through that SDK Manager program, then atleast you could eliminate that easily if its the problem…
Just sent you e-mail. Can you try now?
