Google play refund policy

Hello, i was surfing in internet about publishing apps in google play and saw that customers can redund your app even after 2 days of play time.
For example you publish app for 1.50$, someone buy it and refund it - google pays him back 1.50$, but your account is on -0.40$ because google still takes its royalty…

How do you handle these refunds?
What if today 10 000people buy your app and all refund it? You will have to pay instead being paid.

If 10,000 people buy your game and they all refund it then maybe you should take a long, hard look at just why your game must suck so bad.

A lot of that info is incorrect.

I dont understand why when customer request refund and you refund him money, google play still have to get its royalty. When app is refunded that means Nothing is sold - nothing is bought.
For what they are getting royalty no one can explain.
Google ad that refund time is 15 minutes, but real refund time is 2 days and even more. You can refund app even with comment that app icon does not fit your style.

Like it was said there is a lot wrong with the info you said. Go read the developer docs again

Which part is wrong? Not everything they write is true too.

If you’re willing to claim that Google is lying to you in their official documentation, there’s going to be no convincing you of anything.

Google Play has 2 hour grace period for refunds and if user decides to use it you lose no money. After that they need to contact you for refund or dispute it with Google if they are not happy with your reply.

“Products that cannot be previewed by the buyer (such as applications): You authorize Google to give the buyer a full refund of the Product price if the buyer requests the refund within 48 hours after purchase.”

I dont see anywhere 15 minutes or 2 hours. Dont believe only on what they say, believe only on what they do.

If you are requested to give full refund you have to give 100% from app price but after google takes its royalty.

Developer agreement has always reserved various rights to Google so they can adapt to things without changing multiple parts of the agreement every time. The 48 hour thing is one of them so they can increase the grace period without having everyone accept it again. Automatic refund has had it’s time increased few times already and they still have a lot room to increase when needed.

Users currently only have 2 hours for automatic period and after that it’s manual work them to ask it which you can reject. Then they can ask Google which can accept or reject the request based on users history and reasons for the refund. If they accept it, you will lose the Google cut of the price or not depending of the reasons. You are not protected for example if your code is buggy or the game gives a deceptive impression of it during first hours.

If you get 10,000 sales in one day and they all refund, stop making games and start hiring yourself as a game marketer.

This doesn’t sound right. It should refund you Google’s fee too. Where did you get that information?

A preview video allows the user to preview before they buy. Apps purchased with video previews available can not be refunded based on customers unable to review the product. There has to be another reason - like crap code, buggy game etc.

I’ve had apps refunded. They only take away what they gave you. You do not eat the cost of Google’s cut. I’m not sure where that idea came from. It appears to be from this article: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/05/16/google-quietly-implemented-automated-refunds-apps-15-minute-window/

But that is due to an incorrect understanding of what they mean. Say I sell a $5 game in one pay period and get $3.50 after Googles cut. If the app is returned after that pay period, and I sell no copies in the next pay period, I would owe Google $3.50 for the return. Rather than let that happen, Google eats the entire cost of the app. I still get my $3.50, and Google losses $3.50. There is no need to do this within the 48 hour window because you wouldn’t get paid out yet for payments that have not cleared. There is no circumstance where I lose the $1.50 fee that Google took.

This is your first mistake. Always go directly to the source and read an actual TOS for realiable information.

Ok lets say you are right. If someone decide to ask for refund and i have to accept, every single time i have to go bank and transfer lets say 2$ to user or everything is automatically?

I want to make my app freemium, but in-app purchases are so much responsible.

No. I think you are confused by his “instead of” case.

As he said, and as I read it, if a refund happens in that first window, you just don’t get a sale. You never get it credited to your account. After that window, Google pays for the refund. You keep your sale. Nothing is taken from you. I would suspect if you have a crazy amount of refunds, Google may look into an possibly pull your game.

So make a good game that is as bug free as possible and you will be fine
