Google’s ‘Seurat’ Surface Light-field Tech Could Be a Graphical Breakthrough For Mobile VR

This looks interesting not sure how it works something to do with light fields.

You take high end CGI and Seurat it then you can more easily display that space in VR?

So is this the VR equivalent of a 3D photo, or bump/displacement mapping?

And could it be any use for games VR and none VR or YouTube VR?

I’m looking for them to name some tricks to reverse engineer, they are tight lips except something about automated decimation … I wonder if this will scale to any 3d games and where are teh real constraints. I have some idea, it might be an advanced version of the box environment mapping with spatial positioning, but where the box is replace by a low poly view based approximation of the scene to conserve parallax data (dependent of the navigation volume) …

I had no idea what that video was about because each person talked for 1 sentence then it changed to someone else.

THe video is bad, they had some leading before it that explain a little more, but only a little.

That’s okay because at the end of the day none of us will be able to afford it. :stuck_out_tongue:

So I had to do some digging on my own, and I still can’t figure out what the hell they’re actually doing here.

Haven’t watched the video, but I have played around with the new Elemental demo for daydream which has a new renderer in it which I assume is this? If it is, the performance does seem to be pretty decent on my Moto Z. Obviously they are demos so it might not hold up to real world stuff, but even to have the demo with the lighting was pretty good for mobile VR.
