Got a real job using unity

Can’t even believe it. I’m not the single best programmer in the world but have been using Unity for 3 years as a hobbyist.

I landed a job for a company that doesn’t use Unity yet that wants someone familiar with it to see what we can do. They have tons of gadgets, motion sensors, cameras, etc and need someone to learn the API’s because everyone there are artists and they’ve been using freelance indians to code what they needed in the past. Now they need someone to physically hook up all the gear and play with it. hehe It’s a dream come true for me. It’s my final semester in school but all my C# experience is from Unity, in school we do Java.

So I just wanted to say stick with it guys!! I can honestly say finding Unity changed my life! I used to work construction.

Congratulations and good luck

Thx, honestly having the mobile basic licenses they gave out last year sealed it for me…

Congrats
I’m not under any NDA, but I don’t want to make any undesired disclosures, so I’ll stay vague : I was contacted several times for Unity-centric jobs in different very high level industries. Not entertainment related.
From all the engines to learn, Unity is clearly the best choice for all it could bring to your career.

Congrats! Now tell me the secret in finding them!
Enjoy the new position, sounds like a great opportunity!

Anytime soon unity guys do it again with free basic android and ios license? I seemed to miss it last time. :rage:

It was so random, I found them on a freelancing site I signed up to do javascript and unity 3d projects on. They needed someone local in the city I live.

They did a poll on here a month or two ago talking about it so it could happen…I wish they’d just do the android basic license for free, I know a half dozen people who would use it, and once you build your android game you could upgrade to pro or buy iOS basic…

Well done! Good luck with your new job!

Tell them to hire me too.

oh please,do it again unity guys.

Congratulations! Even as rare as they are hearing stories like this give me hope that I can one day parley using Unity into a full time career.

Best of luck in you new job.

It happens, my last w-2 job was as a construction worker. I went back to school at 26, now I’m 29. I’ve been coding as a hobby for 10 years.

Awesome job. Congratulations. I hope you create neat and useful stuff.

Right now is a great time find work using Unity. Many of the large companies are either entering or expanding thier mobile offerings. And as such if not going directly into Unity they are at least testing/exploring it. In that last several months we have hired a handful of specifically for their Unity skills.

Folks looking to go this route should beef up their optimization and performance skills related to mobile. That is very desirable skill that many are looking for at the moment.

Good job Imbarns, it’s nice when persistence pays off.

Indeed. There are a lot more unity jobs here in Seattle than there were a few years ago.

This is something they want me to learn first http://www.metaio.com/ along with lots of other stuff I’d never heard of.

I usually check the job boards every few days but there doesnt seem to be any jobs for unity developers or there are so few it happens once in a blue moon.
