GPU Instancing with animation/animator

Does GPU Instancing support animation/animator?

I want perform a GPU Instancing then provide animation/animator reference to it and it should use that provided animation/animator to play the animation. Is this possible? If not, can this be added to 5.6 release?

Hello,

GPU instancing is currently only available for MeshRenderer.

In others words, if your object is not a SkinMesh (Character using a rig for example), you can use GPU Instancing and animate your mesh through Animation or Animator system.

The only way to achieve GPU instancing to Skinned Mesh is to use a Compute Shaders and make your own GPU Instancing system.

But it is very complicated stuff.

Thanks for the link. That’s cool but the source code is not open to public. This means that Unity does not support characters with rigged animation when Instancing. That’s just what I want to do.

Well you can try this: Mesh Animator - Highly efficient animated crowds. For support, please use email. - Community Showcases - Unity Discussions
