Graphics drivers and black screen crash ?

Hi,

I created a little webplayer at http://www.educasoft.be/unity

When I browse to that player on a windows machine, everything goes correct.
When I try this on my brand new iMac, I see the scene, but as soon as I turn towards the karting go-kart my screen goes BLACK entirely and the iMac is crashed. I can only remove power from the mac to reboot it.

The webplayer is not in fullscreen, but in a browser window. Still the crash affects the whole PC.

Is there anyone who could test the movie and say if he/she could see the karting go-kart and what computer/os/gfx card you use?

Also, I’m quite new to mac, but are there also drivers which you can update for mac (Radeon HD2600) ?

There sure must be something and I’d like to find out what causes this.

Looking in console logs also didn’t learn me anything because the crash seems to happen even before the macOS can write any error to the console log.

Any help/testing would be highly appreciated.

No Problem here on MacPro 2.0 Hz. Runs smooth and without any graphic issues.

Okidoki, thats nice.

Do you know if we can check somewhere which version of the unityplayer is installed on the mac and so?

It would be quite stupid if this would only happen on my machine. I can reproduce it every time over and over again at the same spot.

Maybe I should delete and reïnstall the webplayer somehow, but don’t have the knowledge to do this on an iMac so any hints are heavily appreciated.

As far as i know, the webplayer updates automatically, once installed. Sorry, i dont know how to check the version number…

Well then, lets hope other people will also test and hopefully somebody at Otee has heard before of this bug in something. I am not going to say its a bug in webplayer, because it could as well be my imac, but its very strange. Other unityweb movies are perfectly playable on my iMac however.

Works fine on my iMac

Well, its starting to drive me nuts.

It works everywhere else, but not on my machine.

I tried to make the problem occur again while being logged in from windows pc using ssh.

The error always happen when I look at the karting kart at www.educasoft.be/unity

As soon as 1 pixel of this kart is to be rendered it crashes to black screen.

The console on the terminal screen shows

np_entry: NP_Initialize called
np_entry: NP_GetEntryPoints called
070917 18:14:13 Datafile http://www.educasoft.be/unity/demo.unityweb
070917 18:14:13 Loading Unity Player
Player: init engine
070917 18:14:17 Loader: Start Success

And thats it. The iMac crashes and the ssh session is also terminated. I get a black screen on the mac and everything hangs. The screen remains on, so I need to push the imac power button 6 seconds to force power down.

I have bought the latest Imac 2.4Ghz 24" screen with 2Gb ram.
On the IRC channel some people suggested that this might be a graphics bug. So I really hope somebody else also has a brand new imac to test this.
Testing on another account was also all the same.

This is a driver bug in Apple’s OpenGL on those graphics cards. For Unity 2.0 we are working on a driver workaround.

Great, tnx for letting know.

In the meantime you can try running software update (Apple menu → About this Mac → software update). Apple usually releases new Mac models with flaky OpenGL drivers, just to release driver updates a couple of weeks after that :frowning:

Yeah, I check for updates every day

This is not the 100% nice way to test unity. Bought the imac just for that but at least if you guys say its a driver problem which will get solved, I am allready at ease now.

Fast support by the way.
Congratulations.

Would be interesting to see what’s gonne be first: the next and last OS X update to 10.4.11 (which hopefully contains a driver update) or Unity 2.0 …

Well,

To solve my problem I’d need the OsX update.
To solve my hunger it would have to be the 2.0 update.

Who will be first. I hope 2.0
