Graywalkers: A tactics turn-based game in a dynamic world

Graywalkers: Purgatory is a 3D strategy RPG where your actions affect the economy and politics of a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by the war between angels and demons.

The idea is that even though this is a turn-based tactics game, the world is dominated by the AI factions (gangsters, militia, bandits, merchant nomads, etc.) and you do quests for them.

Pretty typical so far, but, we want to give the factions their own AI. They have agendas they pursue, capture resources on the world map, wage war on other factions, make alliances, etc. This is all procedural (for the most part).

Imagine the world map of Civilization (where cities grow and die anywhere), but you’re travelling through it as a tactical RPG character. So that means a working model of economics, politics, wildlife population, natural resources, supply lines, etc.

Factions post jobs (i.e. quests) when they need outside help, and that’s where you come in.

Say a faction wants to capture an abandoned stronghold for themselves. But to get there, they need to travel through a pass infested by werewolves. Having no expertise in dealing with these creatures, they post a job to clear that pass of said monsters.

So if you complete that quest, they may eventually capture that stronghold as their territory. If you fail the quest, perhaps they will find another way to capture it, or perhaps they won’t be able to after all.

In effect, every quest you fulfill (or disregard) will have consequences and repercussions, sometimes far beyond what is immediately apparent. At least, that’s the idea.

tl;dr think playing FF Tactics using the dynamic world map of Civilization

We’re running a Kickstarter campaign for this, so if you have friends you think will like this, spread the word!

You should really show some gameplay in your kickstarter video!

(As far as I’m told) The edited video is being rendered as we speak!

UPDATE: An updated video is now in the kickstarter page!

Here’s some gameplay footage as well:

Hi, so we uploaded a new video now (starts out the same, but shows gameplay footage and interviews afterwards, so you can skip the intro part).

And here’s some new concept art!
