This might get interesting if they won’t use lame gfx again… http://www.electronista.com/articles/06/09/08/new.apple.cube.patent/
I feel it’s a matter of when (could be 2 years!), not if, Apple gives people a headless below the Mac Pro.
I was thinking it might be called the Cube just because there aren’t a lot of other names that fit the lineup
Upgradable graphics is almost a must–and if not, then really GOOD graphics, suitable for gamers–IS a must.
As is a price sufficiently below the Mac Pro. (The original Cube was priced too high.)
Gamers aren’t the only ones who want a mid-range Mac that uses an external display, but they do fit in that category, and it’s a category Apple should have something more to offer than they have now.
It would be great to see it happen, if those conditions are met.
Hmm why not mac cube? They have a mac pro, a mac book. Obviously it could also be the other way around but i don’t care much about the name.
As for the price and performance:
To me it would be enough if this would feature the slowest core 2 due merom there is as long as they put in a better gfx card wich qualifies in a range above the slower clocked x1600 they use.
They for sure won’t put in a up to date gfx beast as it would destroy the concept with the silent computer which the cube was also loved for by the few who bought it. Ahh it would be so fantastic if it would be completely fanless…
If they make this a plus fan design (but remember that you could also plug a fan into the old one) then i think they will still go for a silent fan solution as otherwise it would be really bad because you can’t put it easily below your desk and have all this noise and dust in front of you.
It would be nice if it would be priced in the same region as the iMacs are. Count out the display and in replacement for it add better componets regarding performance per watt and who knows what will be exchangeable then you’re done. Anything above this pricerange would again be a artificial barrier for the non Apple enthusiasts.
It would be great if it would ALLOW a really high-end double-width GPU, on the understanding that this would crank the fans up to jet speed. Meanwhile it would be Apple-silent for people with mid-range GPUS. Probably won’t happen though.
Won’t happen for sure. Have you ever looked at how much power the newest gfx chips need? :O) Not to mention a SLI solution…
