GUI corruption

Hi, I’m running Unity Pro 2.6.1 and going through the 2D Gameplay Tutorial. When I run the game I get illegible text/buttons in the top left-hand corner of the screen (see attached jpg). Any ideas why this is happening?

I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS on a Dell Precision 7500 with Dual, Quad-Core Xeons, 24 GB ram, Nvidia Quadro FX 5800 driving two Dell 30" displays using DVI connectors. I have the latest Nvidia video drivers and Windows updates installed.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Are the buttons supposed to be there? (I mean are you adding them in yourself but they are rendering badly, or have they just suddenly appeared unexpectedly?)

I have made no modifications to the tutorial. As I understand it the buttons allow you to select either the Lerpz character, or the spaceship, to control. The buttons do function, but the graphics/text are garbled.

In our experience, having the text on GUI elements rendered as blocks is a sign of a graphic driver problem. We’ve seen it most often with older cards that don’t support whatever rendering method is used for the text in GUI elements. It’s possible (speculating here) that the Win 7 drivers are not fully baked yet for some reason.

I did wonder, when I bought the system, if the Quadro FX 5800 would be suitable for gaming purposes. I bought the FX 5800 as I am also running 3ds Max, Mudbox and Motionbuilder and it’s one of the recommended video cards for those applications with plenty of ram (4GB). Maybe I need to invest in another system to run Unity and the actual games I produce - something with a more gaming oriented graphics card, perhaps a pair of Nvidia GTX 295’s, or Radeon 5870’s? Or perhaps a later version of the drivers will sort the problem out? Thanks for the advice anyway.

This looks to be the same issue that I am seeing - but I only get it at high resolutions, and only in a build, not in the editor. If I run a build below 2048x1536 there is no problem. As well as the corrupted text I also get extremely low res textures, as if the lowest mips are being used.

Running Win 7 64 bit, a 2gb geforce gtx 285, nvidia drivers 195.62, on only a single 30" monitor @ 2560x1600 I’m afraid …

Thanks profanicus. Yes, after building and running at a lower resolution, the problem disappears. Also it’s ok in the editor, just as you mentioned.

To narrow things down a little, I tested in VMWare running XP 32 bit at 2560x1600, and everything is fine.
So Windows 7 /or 64 bit driver issue?

Hi moocher, I too currently also face the same problem as you.
I Have 2 Quadroplex machines running at 8k resolutions.
I’ve set up 8 monitors to see if the Unity Build is able to setup onto 8 monitors.
To my horror, it clashed…
So i falled back to a single Quadroplex, with only 3200x600 resolution, this time with only 4 monitors.
It worked.
Any resolution higher than 3200x600 k resolution, i would face the GUI texture corruption.
Somehow i conclude that Unity3D Windows StandAlone Build does not recognize Quadroplex Graphic Resources, hence it clashes?

I’m having similar problems with one of our setups. We have a quadroplex with 2 Nividia 5800s driving 3 Christie DLP projectors, for a single 24’x8’ screen and the resolution is 3072x1024. It’s Running on a Win xp 64 system. The three projectors are blended to form a single contiuous desktop. Unity runs the application fine at lower res and windowded. When run in full res and not windowed The textures are smeared. Has any resolution to this problem been found?
We can’nt run full screen at a lower res because the blend gets messed up and one projector(on right) is blank

We are having the same problem, resolution above 1600 gives problems… any1 figured it out? perhaps unity3 will render it different.

Would be good to have a executeable that is made with unity3… perhaps any1 can share… ?

Please can you file a bug report for this issue (menu: Help > Report A Problem). I can’t find anything about it in the bugs database, so it may not have been reported yet.

Done!

I get the same issue as of today. Just started today (nothing else has changed in the build or on the Win7 machine).

I can play other games just fine.
