Hello guys, I am Lanre, from sector 2506 of the Andromeda Galaxy (by the way, in some billion years, we’ll collide with milky way ). I have come to your planet
(thats just a 3d render, your planet is far more beautiful ) nahh, im actually just a 15 year old boy. Anyway, im very good in 3Ds Max ( cos i’ve been working with it for 5 years ) and other software ( like Unity, but im nowhere near God- mode ). Any way, i didnt start with 3ds max, i wanted to make a game cos i loved Rumble Racing, a racing arcade game for the PS2 but when i was faced with c++ coding, i was like *and i decided to stick with animation in max. But now, im in the mood for a game, but a flight game. BUT BEFORE I REQUEST ANY HELP, I WANT TO SUGGEST SOME USE(FUL OR LESS, YOU DECIDE )The day when Unity will look as real as this
(one of my 3d renders) , i would steal a space ship, get to the moon, and jump off it to celebrate, but of course . Anyway, to get close to such realism-Texture baking is heaven, make your scene in softimage, max, maya and so on (yes, im an autodesk fanboy), use mental ray, vray or scanline to make the most realistic environments you possibly can, then bake it all to texture. that way, you have realism, and you can apply it to a variety of situations
-Spline modeling would help you economize polys when modeling
-if you want skies, go on the net and get HDRIs, go into max and render at a 90 degree FOV in 6 camera orientations (fancy way of saying make cubemaps) and go into Unity and make your skybox map.
-if the interwebs is being wicked, buy eon Vue, and make custom clouds and render out a cubemap. Such is life
-The bible says behaviours like selfishness and greed are bad, but in game programming, it’s good. Texture as much as you can, from the terrains to particles.
-Talking of terrains, the terrian tool in unity is good, but your discrete modeling software is better. Make it up, make your snow, displacement, and foilage maps, and watch mother nature on your 20" screen.
-When making a racing game (which is like the one of two most common unity game categories, apart from FPS games ) , you probably want good reflections, but i’ll advise you to make a reflection cubemap in max or maya or whatever, then blur it up till it looks like a glossy realistic car paint, and voila!
-Those cliche image effects like gloom and flares should stop, seriously! If you want realism in your game, then use color correction ramps, and in Photoshop, the Offset and Gamma sliders in Exposure are the best, then make a tint according to your scene (probably blue in daylight)
-Antialiasing seems to be a huge necessity in Unity, so use some ( but dont over do it and fry your Intel Pentium 8088 )
-Motion blur is key, and Depth of Field is lock, but not too much, and play with FOV for the camera, it adds to the whole indie game effect.
-Try as much as you can to NOT be too mainstream, connect with your childish side.
THAT’S ALL I CAN THINK OF FOR NOW, BUT I’LL KEEP ON POSTING AS I REMEMBER, NOW MY REQUEST IS
I’m making a jet fighter game for iThings and Android and Windows Phone, im developing it but now i have to walk through the valley of the shadow of death (multiplayer coding  ) Anyway, I’ve seen things like SmartFoxLite and uLink.
WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE??? AND IS THERE ANYWHERE ON THE INTERWEBS THAT ACTUALLY GIVES A BEGINNER (normal beginner level = 0/100, mine is -infinity/100 ) TUTORIAL WHEN IT COMES TO MULTIPLAYER CODING WITH EITHER ONE OF THESE MULTIPLAYER SERVER THINGS. AND CAN I HOST A SERVER ON MY DIODE COMPUTER :‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’'( ???
I really need help, i’m targeting 4 months for development, it’s just a flight combat game. No gravity, no people, nothing, just fighter jets, and the open skies, and guns and AAMissiles, and explosions, and… i need not continue. I’ll post pictures of renders of what I want it to look like ( renders from 3ds max ) cos i’ve reached my 5 image limit. I await your soonest replies Earthlings!
