Gun position relative to camera - far or close up?

I was thinking, which gun position in a first person shooter does the community prefer - far away from the camera like Call Of Duty, or close up to the corner like Half-Life 2?

I know Half Life does this on purpose - so the player can focus on the actual game, and not the gun design, and I prefer it this way. But Call Of Duty is all about guns, so of course they show off and make the player always stare at them, even if they are cool.

What do you prefer?

From a player’s perspective, I don’t really care as long as I can see the game. I’ve never had any problems like this in a professional game, so you can do either one and it should be fine.

I’ve already decided - the focus will be on the game, not the gun. Just curious about other people’s opinions and why.
