I have just downloaded unity5 just 3 night ago. I am already having so much fun designing my maps and playing with different kinds of textures. but there comes a times were even fun things become mediocre.
That mediocre time has just come. where I am spending 10% of my time with fun and 90% trying to figure out how to make a functioning fun script.
I am using a modern gun pack from the asset store, but I just cannot figure out how to get this working. I have searched the forums, Google ( Youtube as well), and nothing is working for me. I just want to make it shoot.

We have all been were I am right now with the difficulty of developing the platform to start the learning journey.
I want to create a game that will bring the FPS community together and help us forget about COD and other Pay-to-win FPS games.
If you just started with unity, then there’s a long way to go. There are tutorials on the unity website. They are pretty good, and there’s multiple, genre specific ones too.
The gun pack is just a model pack, so it won’t have any code for firing a weapon. Unless you’ve added some, there won’t be any code for moving around either. Your best bet, if you just want to play around. Would be to pick a Unity Asset which has the code for moving around and shooting too. If you want to learn to do it yourself, you’ll need to follow @gorbit99 's advice and go to the ‘Learning’ section of the website and look at the tutorials section for scripts.

nothing like you describe in your second post. then you go on and insult someone who helped you for nothing in return and who had no way of deducing how much you know and what your problem is based on your post
Nigey quite rightly pointed out that the pack contains nothing which will make that happen and pointed out a few lines of inquiry to follow. Perfectly respectable comment on the community scripting forums.
Given the huge numbers of unity tutorials surrounding the FPS genre I’ve very surprised you cannot find a basic shooting example. What have you managed to put together so far? perhaps if you post the code you have we can help you fix whatever is wrong with it.
@8312179, this is not a place where you get scripts from others, this is the helping section. If you want a full fledged script, then go to the paid section of the forum. If you’re not mature enough to come here and ask something, and don’t insult others whilst doing it, then this is not the place for you.
@18312179 when you’re asking for help it does help you to be a lil more polite to your potential helpers, but let me go into a little more detail for you.
What plugins should I be using?
You don’t NEED to have plugins. A lot of people on Unity tend to write their own code. Of course if you want to use something in terms of a FPS system. Unity’s Asset Store would be the first go to place, as opposed to an actual plugin. Going to the Asset Store section and typing ‘First Person Shooter’, or ‘Sniper’, under the search tab would be enough to find plenty. I haven’t tried them myself so I wouldn’t be able to help you there.
Do you have a script you could share?
Not me personally no, perhaps someone else may throw you something, but I’d suggest either practicing coding and learning for yourself, trying the asset store, or Googling around some more. There is normally no ‘easy way’ that gets you around just biting a pillow and getting into learning lol. It’s the best way to learn to go to the Tutorial section, if you haven’t already.
Should I use different Software?
No not really any need. Unity can do a FPS as well as any other. I mean Unreal Engine and things ARE built for FPS’s, but they have just as much of a learning curve.
This is one person’s tid-bit on it, so I wouldn’t try to make it the be all and end all. Keep hunting around, but when you don’t get the response you expect, it’s important to try to be thankful for it still.
before I mentioned the gun pack I did mention that I need help getting the script to work. With every tutorial I keep on running into problems to make the gun shoot.
I have no idea what to do. I do understand that I need a script to shoot the gun, but maybe you should have paid more attention to what I wrote instead of making posts which do not help anyone.
And here we go, you’re insulting people again. Please, show me the part of your thread, where you mentioned this. I can’t find it anywhere. You only mentioned, that “I cannot get this to work”.
