Hello Unity Community!
I am excited to share our recently soft launched indie mobile project for iOS we made with Unity:
Vigilant: Burn and Bloom.
Our initial concept for Vigilant was an arcade-style first-person tap shooter with 360-degree tilt controls. The goal was to create an accessible yet mystic and otherworldly title that would appeal to players of all ages worldwide.
At first we planned to develop a quick and simple hyper-casual game about casting water orbs at infinitely-respawning fire beings. Along the way after lots of tests and experiments our idea evolved into an unusual alien fantasy setting with far more gameplay depth, yet which still retains its global appeal and tilt-and-tap accessibility. One of the most unique mechanics is “Tower Defense” with a different interpretation where the player is the “Tower” himself from “First Person” view.
A bit to the story:
Take on the role of the Sentinel, an underground guardian spirit awoken and empowered by a mysterious meteorite. Your task is to manage an alien ecosystem and prevent mysterious fire-beings from engulfing the surface world in flame. Cultivate unique plants, plant and balance the ecosystem along with fire-beings. Plants are helping you to better strategise and keep the world balanced.
Shortly to say, Remain ever Vigilant and keep all things in Harmony
Another mechanic we added was two distinct worlds: the Underworld and the Overworld. The Underworld is the player’s sanctum - it pauses active gameplay and is where they strategize, unlock upgrades and manage their arsenal of plant seed types for each run. The Overworld meanwhile is where the player applies their skills and strategies to balance a constantly-changing alien ecosystem.
Thats it basically. Our journey using Unity and releasing first project
