how do you think one go about starting a hardware company (phones) just make a scematic and ship it off someware with a pile of money? were dose this?one of my dreams is start a phone company like apple, samsung or like that in the (most likely fardistant/non existant)future? how do people get a prototype mobo for it? just ship your desgihn off to a manuacturing plant. maby unity forums isent the right place for this but maby you would know

I have been involved in a number of hardware projects, designing and specifying and the entire end to end SCM. The OP makes me /facepalm in disbelief. This is the hardware equivalent of an MMO thread.
i dont realy see how this is the equivalant of a mmo thread im not asking for anything exept for the process of it its not like in most mmo threads where they ask for it to be made for them. becase shourly companys like dell must get prototypes maby a more equivilant would be the amazon kindle they have never made hardware before. you do relise this is all metiforical im just interested in the process(sorry just read through my post and it dose sound like i think this is relistic) but it is my dream i just edited first post to clear things up
Well,
- Start by doing a master in Marketing.
- If you don’t have any engineer friend to help you finding a great reallistic idea for a new phone/whateverhardware, well do a master in engineering. (You can probably skip that part and find someone)
3.Find a great idea which is lifable and achievable, that people could use and then develop a big folder with a business plan, maybe drawings and explanations about that incredable phone, etc… - Find investors
- go back to 3 until you found theses investors
- start a ““small”” company with all the money they invested and hire engineers and IT guys to develop a prototype create a new folder with a new business plan, all the information about your prototype (how to build it, what’s cool about it etc), do a lot of marketing research which market do you to target (the business men, 15-30 years old, women, high priced product) etc…
- Find investors
8.Go back to 6. and improve your prototype until you get loads of money from investors. - Start a bigger company, with a part for marketing, IT, R&D,… or hire peoples, or hire marketing companies etc.
- find all the factories needed to have all the parts needed for your phone, find a factory to build your phone.
- try to sell your phone worldwide… Get back to 1. and start with a bigger phone shaped like an ipad which doesn’t do phone
- don’t forget the lawyers all along your development 'cause apple gonna suit you…
I never did that i’m certainly not an expert, it’s highly simplified (really really) but I can imagine that is how you would need to do it…
The main thing is the Awesome revolutionnary Idea and the Investors… Then you need people to buy it of course…

i recon a phone kinda like iphone 4 and 4s but with a solar pannel on the back to trickle charge the phone, no buttons(acutaly 3 but they are hidden on the side) and instead of a metal band around the outside a bamboo band around the outside that extrudes around 1mm from the screen this is for looks, makes people think its enviro freindly, takes impact(bamboo is good at this) and wont let grains of sand smash your screen. it would feature a nvidia tegra 2, a usb port(fullsize would also dubble as hdmi) and a 3d screen(paralax barrier). i know it sounds stupid but ive done a retarded amount of reserch and that would be the best phone ever. and altho people think im trolling this is my dream just like making a game was(i recon ive acheved that) now i wanto concure my other dream(spelling isent on the list:))

then start with a business and marketing plan… How many models of phones? who do you targetting to sell the phone to ? How much would it cost to develop it, how much would cost to build it? etc

the thing is that if you want to suceed in that, having a phone design is a detail, (except if you’re trying to sell a design to an existing company) to get investors you need to propose something stunning which change and add something compare to the others companies…
The design come after.
What functionalities your phone has ? Can it get connected to your fridge to see if you need milk and add it on your shopping list ?
You need to explore that.
It’s like if you want to create a ps3 game (box version not psn), well having a fantastic main character won’t get you any investors, you need to explain: here is the synopsis of the story, here are few characters draft and their story, the story takes place in 3014 on planet alpha-45 full of jungle. Here is the gameplay and that’s something new and original (ex: portal, minecraft, wii, heavy rain,…) you’re not apple or samsung neither rockstar or EA so you need a big plus compare to the other companies to at least be able to say ok I’ve got something I’ll spent time on it and start my own company and invest time and money.
Well obviously this is my humble opinion, again i’m certainly not an expert…
Apple cant sue him unless he is using their patents.
If his design is close enough to one of Apples designs they can certainly sue him.

You can very easily tell that this is a troll from some attention seeking 11 year old. Don’t quite get tho how some people would actually believe that this is a genuine post haha 
You might want to ask questions like this on some chinese development forums. They have quite a lot of ripping in their state.
