I am gobsmacked that the author of this extension didn’t bother to create a thread here in the Unity forum for support or question (at least I couldn’t find it so far). The extension looks AMAZING to say the least, and price very competitively.
I found this while I am shopping for a dynamic sky solution - so as a comparison I would like to hear what other people’s opinion on their respective experience on other dynamic sky solutions in Asset Store.
UniStorm - $60.00
UniStorm seems to be second best looking solution I have seen so far, and seems to be well supported.
VISky - $25
VISky is a new entrant and seems to be performance oriented. Its not bad looking, and reportedly it only uses roughly 20-25 draw calls (http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/106929-Anyone-using-VLSky). It is also the cheapest solution out of the bunch.
Time of Day - Dynamic Sky Dome - $50
Another new entrant and seems to be performance oriented too. reportedly it runs rock-solid 60 FPS on the iPhone 4.
SilverLining Skies 3D Clouds - $125
This one seems to be mostly about cloud sims.
UniSky - $50
Lastly, UniSky. The first procedural sky solution in Asset Store. The baseline everyone compare it to.
I only put these 4 on my list of extensions to keep track : (I grab them when they are on sales or when I really need them)
Tasharen Water $45 <-------------------
Aubergines Water $25 <-------------------
SUIMONO Customizable Water $65
Easy Water $10
Tasharen Water seems to be a best looking although only for very specific case (mostly overhead) from what I heard - as it would behave badly in low viewing angle (FPS/Third person)
Time of Day looks incredible. It also runs respectably on mobile while still looking better than any other solution I’ve used. I can’t imagine myself needing anything else for the time being.
I found UniStorm to be a bit jumbled and bloated. Not only that, the “mobile” version has terrible mobile performance. I regretted that purchase. It’s possible none of that matters if you’re making a desktop game, but it’s a little clunky, written in JS, etc. I think you can get good results if you have a powerful platform though.
I found RealSky to be pretty good if you are looking for a simple mobile sky system.
It is has a good list of features, uses 1-2 draw calls, and is only $5.
What would you advice for a dynamic weather system that could run on mobile ?
unistorm mobile dont seems to be updated a promised… I worry to buy something that will not being useful in the future if updates dont comes out
