Has anyone who purchased Unity+Android received Nexus Phone?

Hey everyone,

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here.
Hope everyone is doing well

Anyway, I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could answer…
I purchased the early-bird upgrade a couple weeks ago , for the “big-kahuna” package with Unity Pro 3, iPhone Pro, and Android.

I guess when I placed my order, I didn’t ‘check’ a checkbox that asked if I wanted to receive Unity news, etc. (or something similar to that) - so I wasn’t notified right away about the beta downloads. However, I found that answer on here and emailed sales with my receipt info and I was very quickly given the beta info – So thanks again Unity Support.

OK, I’m not sure why I started there, but here’s my actual question:
I obviously hope/hoping/hoped that I am in that first 500 pre-orders of the Android buyers…I’m especially still hopeful because the main Unity page still has the promo showing for the “Pre-Order Unity/Android Today and get a Nexus One”.

But so far, I haven’t received a Nexus One in the mail and am getting a bit worried/anxious. So I am asking anyone reading this that ordered the Android option - Have you received your Nexus One phone yet?

I’m worried now that I didn’t make it into the first 500 orders, and the main Unity page showing that promo just hasn’t been updated yet…OR…that something went wrong with my order – perhaps not checking that “Receive Unity news, etc.” checkbox on the order form
(Which is why I mentioned that above, only because it prevented me from receiving beta news; although I highly doubt this is the cause)

…OR → Perhaps Unity is waiting until the final release of v3 is out before they start shipping the phones? …although I really hope this isn’t the case, as I’d really like to get used to working with the Android OS and all of the specifics of it ASAP.

Sorry for making this 1-line question turn into such a long post.

All in all, my main question is just if anyone has received their free Nexus One phone already; or if anyone knows any further details about when they plan on getting the phones shipped out, etc.

Thanks to all,
Chad

A number of people have received their phones. Several posted on here about customs problems, so could that be an issue for you too? I can’t remember if they were coming from Denmark or the US.

I’m pretty certain that a Unity rep assured people that the shop would be updated when the 500 phones were gone, and that - if the shop said you would get one, you will get one. I say pretty certain, but I’m absolutely positive.

USA

If you contact sales@unity3d.com they can tell you when your Nexus One was shipped and give you a tracking number.

Ah, well probably not a problem then. Unless there might be out of state taxes due.

We received ours without any problems.

Great - thanks for the help everyone. I’m definitely happy to hear that they are at least sending them out, I guess when you have (potentially) 500 phones to ship, depending on how many people they have working on that part - could easily take a while.

I’m in the USA, so hopefully once it’s shipped, it’ll float on through and come quickly.

Thanks again.

In the USA, got ours about a month ago.

When I contacted them they said that as long as the message was up saying the first 500 would get phones then they hadn’t met the limit, so you should be fine. They also said it would take several weeks just to ship, but I received mine about a week and a half after I ordered.
I’m in the US, also.

for me too expensive yet.
offering “Android Basic” would be great.

Just out of curiosity, do you happen to remember which shipping carrier they used? I’d assume either: US Postal Mail (normal mail), UPS, FedEx, or DHL.
I was mostly just wondering because someone on my street gets a delivery from each one of those carriers almost everyday - and I’m pretty good at determining which loud diesel truck (company) is coming up our street.

One other question…
Well first I guess I should ask - on this forum, when asking a new separate question that’s not really related to the original post, is it good-Unity-etiquette to start a whole new thread, or is it ok to just tack it on the end like I’ll do this time (Some forums are very strict ya know) – ok, so here’s my other question:

When I actually get an Android app ready to sell in their Android Marketplace, it appears that you just sign up on Google’s site (http://market.android.com/publish/signup), and pay them a $25 fee (I’m guessing it’s an annual fee?) - and then…you probably get access to their Android SDK…I’m not sure if there are any other major steps in there that I missed, but hoping not too much…
→ I’m just guessing about getting access to the Android SDK at that point due to the setting in the latest Unity3b that asks for a path to the Android SDK…although I see there may be some trouble there after looking at some of the other threads in here.

For any brave developers out there that have already tried this and actually succeeded in getting their app published in their “Marketplace” and open for business to the public → Does my list of things to do, listed above, sound somewhat how the process goes?
Or, am I way off base here…

I got mine about a month ago. It wasn’t fedex or UPS, I think it was US Mail – definitely not an expected carrier. It came from some third-party sender, too, not Unity or Google. I had no idea what it was when I opened it.

Ah even more fun and surprises :stuck_out_tongue:
Ok, I’ll just keep hoping. Thanks again everyone.

If it takes longer than like 2 weeks since ordering, write support ASAP. I did not and there was a chain of problems involved in my case and it took nearly 2 months to get my Nexus One. So if it not arrived, write them a mail and Caitlyn is usually responding very fast.

We received ours a couple of weeks after ordering… before we got the link to the beta download if I remember correctly!

Actually I just received a (fast) response from them, and the are looking into it. As you mentioned - Unity support has always been (for me at least) very nice, and fast in responding. Thanks for the tip though

I got mine after a month…

I paid for my Android Pro (and iPhone Advanced and Unity Pro) over a month ago, August 17th to be exact, and have yet to see it. I emailed Unity sales (sales@unity3d.com) twice this last week and haven’t even heard a response from them.

I also tried emailing ‘info@unity3d.com’ and ‘support@unity3d.com’ and I get this mail rejection:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

info@unity3d.com; support@unity3d.com

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist.

Yet, these are their published email addresses on their site! (see Unity Customer Service: Technical Support & Training | Unity).

Is anyone else having difficulties like this?!

Thanks,

Don

Those two should work just fine (and worked when we tried them today). If you can give us a rough time frame when you tried to email hopefully we can track down what went wrong.

Hopefully things are working now. I emailed again last night and got a response from ‘Noreply’ (case #00057572)

In any case, here are the headers from the first two emails giving times and email addresses:
From: Don Goddard idongoddard@gmail.com
Subject: Nexus One phone?

and here’s the header from the mail failure:

Thanks for looking into this!
