It was there on iOS6 (which is the last time I checked). I only see “popular new games”. I know Android removed such feature due to shovelware, but never thought Apple would. Am I just not seeing it hidden somewhere?
Previously I would consider iOS a better initial release candidate than Android due to the existence of “all new action games” which didn’t exist on droid. Now I’m not so sure…
Yes, they did, at least in the US. I think it’s still there in some international markets.
It hurts badly for indie release in US.
I just released a new game last week, almost impossible to find on US, but it got some attention due to that new feature in other markets. AppAnnie tells you where it makes the Featured Lists.
This was done around June, they implemented the “popular terms of the day” or that list of search terms to focus more on ASO than just a list of new games.
I have no idea who the new system is supposed to benefit. It doesn’t help indies, and it doesn’t help users discover new games. Users of the app store are stuck more than ever with the choice of the top lists, or the very few chosen to be featured, which rarely changes.
Deep keyword linking, in-app content linking, apps with precise keywords and more content now get more traffic.
When there was a list you had people pumping out games with names like AAA Wild casino or ‘’'AAA Wild Casino every day to be on the top position and the games were identical. So every day they published the same game just with different icon. That garbage is all gone now.
I know that technique was used before, but people with a brain could scroll past the letter A and see all other new games. It’s retarded that you can no longer do that.
As a user I am sad thats gone because all you can see now is that list that the editor makes with games he likes by category. As a dev its only a push to the keyword era and we need to roll with the punches.
