Have been trying to open and use this product since before Christmas but it literally only crashes.

Getting Started

Windows 7 user. Using Unity 5.6.3p1 personal for VR Chat avatar creation. When I open Unity, I get the splash, Login screen, all of that is fine. However, when I click “+ New” I get a fatal error message that says:
!createdirectory recursive(full path)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, deleted registry keys before reinstalling, open as admin, white listed on firewall, tried with no firewall, tried with no internet, pretty much anything anyone has tried when I search for the fatal error message. Issue tracker says its been fixed, yet I have not even been past this point with this software. Anyone else have any ideas?l

I can’t even open the editor to get to the preferences tab.

Sorry to hear that. I don’t have a fix for you, necessarily, but if you are just beginning, I would suggest that you try the latest Unity build (Either 2017.3.0f3 or 2017.3.0p1).

I know sometimes people stay on an older version if they are deep into working on a project, but if you are just starting out and don’t have to be on an older version, I wouldn’t…

Could be something with the target directory and how you have your drives mapped. Just doing it on just flat root folder C:\MyNewProject\ or something.
