I am installing unity (not unity hub), but whenever I install it it goes halfway through the installation, says it is executing UnitySetup64.exe, verifies the installer, and then asks me for admin password. According to other questions I’ve seen, it is supposed to ask for admin rights before it starts (i am not admin and the admin account is locked and nobody can enter it, not even my dad who is the admin) but it doesn’t ask for admin rights until it trys to setup unity and then i get stuck.
Just a long shot, maybe if you can get your dad to switch off user access control (assuming windows) and try the installation again.
Control panel > user accounts > change user account settings (reduce bar down to none), may require reboot.
Not based on any specific Unity knowledge by the way, just general issues installing stuff into windows. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in, but the other thing is that I think that you have to be an administrator to carry out the installation and use Unity going forward (as the application needs access to parts of the file system restricted to admins). If you have the time and patience to test, get your dad (who is an admin) to login and try the installation under his profile. If it works for him then thats probably where its going wrong. I know thats not a solution for you, but perhaps an opportunity to explain to your dad why he needs to grant you admin access for your education ![]()
