We are releasing some shaders to provide support for Particle Systems (lit and unlit) in HDRP.
This is not for use with the Visual Effect Graph.
The shaders are shipping as an example package within HDRP version 7.1, but you can also grab the shaders from this thread.
They are authored via Shader Graph and provide the most popular combinations of functionality:
- Lit and Unlit
- Particle colors
- Blended Flipbooks
- Camera Fading
- Soft Particles (fade against depth buffer) (requires version 6.8.1 or newer)
- Distortion (refraction approximation) (requires version 6.8.1 or newer)
These will be added once the relevant bug is fixed in Shader Graph.

UPDATE: A user has kindly converted the shaders to work in 2018.3 with HDRP 4.10, so I have attached their package here too.
UPDATE: Distortion and Soft Particles are now working in HDRP 6.8.1 and newer!
