Height maps and Parallax shader? (bricks)

Hi all,

I’m working with a model of an old factory building - made of brick. It’s an actual real-world building and I have photos that I intend to use for texturing.

I’ve been doing some simple tests in Unity with the Parallax diffuse shader, but I’m having trouble getting the height map to work.

How exactly should it be used and how much depth can be achieved that way? Any alternative ways?

I tried to put a gray scale version of the image in the alpha channel, but I don’t see any difference, so I must have done something wrong.

I suppose brick wall is a pretty common thing in games, so I’d love to know how you done it - do you use the Parallax shader at all for this kind of thing?

Thanks!

Anyone?

Here are the maps that I’ve using for the tests

put the height map in the normal maps alpha channel (just convert the one you have to normal map in unity and create alpha from grayscale).

Thanks for the reply!

That looks awesome! But Parallax/Relief Specular? Is that from 3.0? I should have mentioned that I’m doing this with 2.6 Indie.

2.6.1, got it on the wiki. I just prefer the look of those to the bundled ones for parallax. But it’ll still work whichever you use.

Thanks again,

I will check it out. Embarrassingly, it seems that my test was already working - but some how I neglected the height slider
