I’ve been looking at all sorts of different game engines over the last couple years, and had tried a demo of Unity awhile back. My one functioning Mac had stopped working shortly after that (really, REALLY, dead in the water kind of “stopped working”.) Since I had an excellent Alienware PC I decided to just get a Windows-based game engine, but none of them quite measured up to Unity, though. (DX Studio was the closest contender in some ways…)
Anyways, with the new iMacs out I finally broke down and got a new 24" iMac (which I’m loving so far by the way…) It’s great to have a Mac again, and I also decided to “take the plunge” and get Unity Pro. Even just as an occasional lurker it was obvious that this was an unusually friendly and helpful community. I’m looking forward to getting going with Unity!
Welcome to our world! Because of Unity, I went from a hundred-pound weakling to a suave, muscular stud in just a few months (metaphorically speaking). 8)
Wow, all these replies are a great way to confirm the strong community here! (Bad puns and all… :o )
Between getting used to the joys of OS X again, and going through all the Unity tutorials I feel like I’m in hog heaven. (The level of documentation Unity provides is surprisingly rare…)
The only hitch right now is that my cats are getting jealous and insist on strolling between me and the iMac every chance they get…
Yes, they do think that anything taking my time or attention should be replaced with petting or playing with them. If I don’t humor them, I soon get a loud and indignant MEOW, and an impatient paw tap or two on my arm.
