[HELP]3D Object Problem[HELP]!!!

Hello guys. I came here, because I want someone with better 3D modelling (and 3D models) knowledge to help me. I am currently making an Indie Game in Unity. And everything seems to be OK, just that the action of my game is supossed to take place inside a house. I looked up a few free for use 3D models on Google Warehouse. And, apparently, I found the perfect one, I really like it. Here’s a link to it: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e055970e1a3639401191a665d6e35d05&prevstart=0.

OK, so now, here comes the problem. When I am importing the model into Unity(I open the *.skp file in Google Sketchup, and then export it as a *.fbx file into Unity), it imports fine, just that the house only has 1 mesh(Mesh1), wich gets split up(when imported) into Mesh1_Part1 and Mesh2_Part 2.

So basically, I cannot edit individual components of the house(like a door, or a window, or a carpet, or any other object that can be found inside the house/is part of the house), BECAUSE, basically that Mesh represents the entire house(it’s like that group/mesh, it’s actually the house itself, no reason for it to be there). And I tried exporting it as a *.3ds file into Blender, or even as an *.obj file, but the textures get messed up in Blender(I tried to open the house inside Blender, because, Blender usually splits imported objects into many meshes, these meshes representing windows/door/carpet/etc.), I tried the FBX Converter for these *.3ds, and *.obj file, hoping that it will convert into an *fbx file with more meshes.

But no success. I tried to look at the exporting options, inside Google Sketchup, but nothing. SO, all I want is to import the house into Unity, as an object with more meshes. I imported a van for example, and it had different meshes wich let me edit the doors, the wheels, the windows, the mirrors. But speaking of the house, I cannot edit the mesh, because that mesh is the house itself.

I hope you understand what I mean, and what I want. Thanks in advance, and help me please. And no, I don’t want to use an other house, or model one myself(becasue I am not a modeller, sorry).

General stuff:

The local population of exclamation marks seems to explode in this post. In order to make sure that the habitat of local characters in this post is not disturbed, please tightly control the amount of exclamation marks brought into this thread, and make sure to keep them on a leash at any given time. Or in other words - a normal thread title would be totally sufficient.

Also, your text is very hard to read - using paragraphs would help a lot.

About your problem:
If you take that mesh as-is and it has been built to be only a single part or parts which don’t fit your requirements, you basically may only have the choice to rework that mesh to have it fit the way you need it. That means: Import it into your 3D application, extract doors, windows and such as you need them and save them as separate fbx files (or any other format suitable for Unity). Delete those parts also from the mesh to make sure to get rid of these doors.

Then in Unity you may import them again, place the doors where needed, assign animations and so on.

That’s the easy description.

In reality you will surely also need to unwrap all the objects again to make sure textures (which you will need to rebuild as well) fit. Might be a lot of work, depending on what you want to do and want to finally achieve. Also: I don’t have any chance to open the model you linked to now, but from the images and the description I think that the model might not really be suited for game development needs. Depends on how that is split up, how many vertices there are and so on.

The bottom line is: There is no easy way to get that model working in a dynamic way within Unity.

I see, BTW, I listened to your advice, and edited my post, unfotunately I could not edit the title. However, thanks for help, I’ll be probably waiting for more replies, but, I guess you’re right, the problem is also that it takes a lot of time to render such a big house, even if I mark it as a static object. I cannot even use Occlusion Culling on it, since the player is always inside the house, and he sees the house all the time. I’ll try your way, and delete the doors, then import them separately into Unity. More replies and answers are however welcome.
