hi
i decided that i’m going to use unity engine to my first game
but i dont know much about game developing or design, but i know how to program(software engineer)
i looked on udemy and saw 2 courses that suit to my needs
1 - Become a Game Developer/Designer : Complete Master Series
2 - Learn to Code by Making Games - Complete C# Unity Developer my mission is to create 2d tbs game, someone tried\did one of them? thanks in adavance * i can register to both, but not if needed…*
If you’re not doing this as an all-out business venture, I’d say take neither of these. Something better: make a game. Learning to program is the one big hurdle for most people, and since you don’t have that holding you back, you will be able to focus on learning design and logistics as you progress. After you finish one small project, you will be armed with all kinds of knowledge that you discovered just from trying for your next project.
I don’t like the idea of paying for a course like this if it’s just about the concepts of programming and design. These can be learned easily for free. Even Unity’s website has dozens of free video tutorials which include copy-able example code, and if you have questions about the tutorials, you can bring them to the forum. Things like advanced physics modelling and software optimization or whatever may merit some special attention from an experienced instructor. Game design can be a good one too, since it involves a fair bit of psychology, but there are some good books for this if one would prefer.
If you are experienced with programming but need to learn a specific language, use a tutorial. There are tons of Unity-specific C# (and other languages) tutorials already out there, as you are probably aware.
Just in case you’re dead-set on taking one of these, can you give us some more info on what kinds of things you’re convinced you don’t know enough about? Maybe we can give a better recommendation that way.
By the way, I think this question would be more at home in the General Discussion subforum. (Edit: Either this was moved, or it was already in General Discussion. For some reason I thought this was in the 2D support forum.)
I wuill suggest you to do tutorial series from youtube channel. There are many many tutorials available on the subject and it will help you to understand everything you need. Brackeys , n3k will be great for a start.
thanks for answers, i start watching youtube channel about how to create you first game in unity. i have the knowledge to programming(C#,java and more) but i wanted to learn quick and easy the bare bones of unity, i know in the end your experience will bring your knowledge…
i bought Learn to Code by Making Games - Complete C# Unity Developer, its only 15$ and i saw lots of recommendations, moreover i bought AI scripting course Artificial Intelligence A-Z™: Learn How To Build An AI…
after that will continue with my experience and some youtube channels.
i want ask if some can refer me to specific content for 2d tbs game(is there is that kind), what i really need(or will be needed) - how to build smart map - how to do correct placement and movement tile to tile - how to create manage good UI\GUI for that kind of game - how to create good AI
like i said, my first game(real one ) will be TBS 2D, every information i will appreciate
Sounds like the Learn section is what you want. Learn
That pretty much suits people who already can code. Since Unity is not a codeless environment and you need to learn the engine + general game development.
i have small question… if i use the free version can i buy assets and use them? its not problem to register for plus\pro but i only started so, i really don’t need it now…
