Help please re graphics card needed to run unity

I am in the process of getting a new laptop for my son. He wants to use unity (free) for a fairly basic A level gaming project.
Will unity run on a new Intel i7 16gb ram 512gb sandwich, with the new Intel iris xe integrated graphics card or is a more bespoke graphics card needed? Thanks

Unity will run on basically any modern hardware. But will it be pleasant? The question is how is your son planning on using Unity?

As a rule of thumb the hardware should be able to run the game that you are building with Unity, PLUS maybe 20-50% headroom for the overhead of the editor itself. So is your son planning on making 2D platformer games, in which case integrated intel graphics should be just fine, or is he planning on making high fidelity games with high resolution textures and high fidelity 3d models?

In general I would highly recommend a standalone GPU for Unity, as it is after all a realtime 3D engine.
